AQA English Language Paper 2 Section A (Collection 2- Hostile Environments)

(0)
4 (double) lessons to develop skills for English Language Paper 2 Section A- Writer’s viewpoints and perspectives. One text is taken from AQA Paper 2 resource booklet (available on AQA website) and is on the theme of hostile environments: Let’s talk about the climb up Everest, one step at a time interview with Sir Edmund Hilary An extract from the second text is included: On Sledge and Horseback to Outcast Siberian Lepers by Kate Marsden The lessons develop the skills and AO’s required for each question and provide students with a clear structure to answer each question. There are also model answers for students to mark and match against the mark scheme. Activities aim to build a routine with students that they can apply to their exam. Approaching different texts by following the same steps is important. Activities are aimed to be kept to close timings where indicated to help students build their time management skills for the exam. Additional lesson information is available in the notes sections of some slides. As I am using this with my year 11 students I have interleaved Literature skills by using the poems from the Conflict cluster as starter tasks. The aim of this is to aid students’ revision of the poems but also refresh language analysis skills. The poems link to the themes of the non-fiction texts selected. The aim is for students to spend 5 minutes at the beginning of each lesson revising the poetry skills which can then be applied to the rest of the lesson. These could also be used as ‘unseen’ poetry revision for those that have studied the ‘Romantic’ cluster.
