Thanks to the wonderful teachers from around the world who have chosen my resources. I care passionately about quality and value and want you to fill your teaching ‘shelf’ with confidence, saving precious time. Hopefully they won’t be staying on the shelf for long as you’ll use them again and again! I’m a Primary Teacher and published writer with an English degree and French A-level. My resources are mostly Primary but some suit Secondary classes too. I hope your students enjoy using them.

This giant crossword is designed to be completed in groups and features 100 quiz-style clues on all things Scottish. It could be used for Burns Night on 25th January, other Scottish celebrations such as Saint Andrew's Day, end of term fun, start of term fun, as part of a Scotland topic or simply to get students discussing Scottish history, politics, geography, sport, wildlife, popular culture, traditions and more. It suits Third and Fourth Level pupils at Secondary (Key Stage 3 and KS4 and other equivalents) and would also work well at Second Level in Primary - P6 and P7 (Year 5 and 6 and other equivalents). There is a support sheet of answers in alphabetical order, which could be provided for younger or less able pupils in order to make completion of the puzzle significantly easier but still a fun challenge. You might want to give this support sheet out once students have done as much as they can do without help.
Due to the wide range of facts in the puzzle, it works best when students can pool their knowledge in a group. They could research any clues they are unable to work out for themselves. The crossword works especially well if you print it in A3 but it works fine in A4 too. A solution grid is also provided, which could be printed or displayed on the whiteboard at the end.
Includes: Robert Burns, Scottish Wars of Independence, Scottish Parliament, rivers, cities, inventors, art, literature, music, clothing, food, sports stars, mountains, islands, actors, Kings and Queens and more.
Also for Burns Night to suit Second and Third Level (upper KS2 and early KS3), I have a reading comprehension and other literacy activities on Robert Burns and Burns Suppers: Robert Burns Reading Comprehension and Activities
I hope you and your pupils have lots of fun using this. If you can spare a moment I would be grateful for a review. Many thanks.
