Designed as a dice game, it can be used in other ways. As individuals, in pairs or in groups, students roll to find out which 3 words they must incorporate into a sentence (Instructions are on the cards). There are 6 groups of words on each card – openers/connectives, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and two groups of nouns. Students place the selected words anywhere in their sentence, as long as it makes sense, recording the sentence on paper or a mini whiteboard. You may wish to allow flexibility (changing verb tense, using the verb as an adjective etc.)
To cater for different situations and abilities, change the number of words they roll for, have students team up with a partner or select any words they want from the card. I encourage dictionary use for unfamiliar words and urge students to keep sentences they are especially proud of for use in longer pieces of writing. The activity might spark a whole story!
Print on card or paper and laminate for repeated use. With a smaller group, choose the ones you print and/or laminate cards back to back. Alternatively, display cards on the screen for whole class use.

KS2 / KS3 FRENCH MEGABUNDLE
A fun calendar skills maths activity for lower Key Stage 2 (KS2) (originally designed for Year 3 and 4 - Y3 and Y4) - or Primary 4 and 5 in Scotland-, to provide practice, during the Time focus in maths, of reading or using a calendar. It consolidates understanding of months and gives practice of calculating days and weeks after / before etc, developing students’ general understanding of how calendars work. It could be used with lower ability students in Year 5 and 6 too. Students will practise terminology such as ‘fortnight’, ‘day before yesterday’, ‘a week on Tuesday’ etc and be encouraged to count on and back in sevens for full weeks. If they are to move forwards or back 8/15/20 days etc, they can learn to move to the nearest exact week then move back or forwards a day as appropriate, rather than counting days one at a time. **UK date formats used. **
Please check the preview to assess suitability. The resources are in PDF within a Zip file. The Question Cards are also included in a Word document to be easily editable so that you can amend them if required, perhaps adding in details relevant to the school / country in which you are teaching.
The game board is in 3 sections and is comprised of 3 months of the calendar (May, June and July). Children use the instructions printed on the cards and boards to navigate forwards and backwards in time, until someone reaches the end of July! A rule card is included for the children to refer to. This could be used with groups across the whole class or perhaps just for a group that needs lots of consolidation of calendar work, to add some variety to their learning programme. The boards were designed in A3 and they work really well at this size if being used with a larger group. If you can only print in A4, you might want to scale it up on the copier after printing. However, A4 works fine too. You might need to use the ‘shrink to fit’ setting on your printer if printing in A4.

Designed for an Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 6 class but suitable for early KS3 Year 7 for revision, these 6 Speed, Distance and Time printable Four in a Row games (metric units) are fun alternative activities to additional textbook work on this maths topic, after pupils know the formulae D=SxT, S=D÷T and T=D÷S. ANSWER VERSIONS of all games are included. All games are in PDF format.
Contains a more simple (one star) and more challenging (two star) version for each of:

Average Speed
Time Taken
In addition to featuring generally more challenging calculations, the two-star versions of each require conversion between units in some cases.
Print and laminate the boards for regular use. I recommend printing boards in A3 if possible (or enlarging them to A3 on the copier) but A4 will be okay too. Pupils work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a die each time to find which column to pick a calculation from (the columns are numbered 1-6). If there are no calculations left in the column whose number they have rolled, they either skip a go or roll again (depending on the rules you have chosen). Pupils write their answers on the board with a whiteboard marker. They could either use a different coloured pen to record answers on the board or add an initial or symbol if using the same coloured pen as their opponent.

Please note that most of the text in the PowerPoint is editable, however the images are not. Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. An additional PDF version is included. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will still help you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. PE, Numeracy and communication skills mix in this fun active relay fitness game for Primary (Key Stage 2, especially Year 4, 5 and 6). Great for outdoor learning or special events such as National Maths Week, to have children practising mental calculations in another curriculum area. Alternatively, use this activity as a warm up to add variety to your normal Physical Education programme. Good teamwork and communication should be encouraged as teammates help each other to work out the calculations and guide each other to the possible answer cards, while navigating around the hidden Exercise Cards (which force the team to divert onto a variety of athletic challenges!). 4 files are included: large versions of game boards and cards in PDF, small versions, plus editable exercise card files (both sizes - in PPT), in case you wish to add some of your own exercise ideas. Print and laminate the boards and cards you require. No equipment is necessary and the game can be played in a gym hall or outside space. Answer key included.
INSTRUCTIONS (Also included within the file):
Split students into up to 7 groups, giving each a calculation board.
Shuffle the number cards and as many exercise cards (12 included) as you wish, spreading them out face down at the other end of the playing area. You may wish to remove the answer cards for any board not in use.
Teams send one person at a time running to collect a card. On each go, students must only turn over one card. If they know it is not an answer to any calculations on their board, they replace it, or else they can bring it back to their team to check and the next team member can replace it if it is not required, before collecting another card.
If a player turns over an Exercise Card, they must bring it back to their group and the whole team must perform the stipulated exercises. When all members are finished the exercise, the next runner can set off for another card.
The winners are the first team to cover all their calculations with the correct answer cards.
There are two of each number card, as each answer features on two boards, helping to ensure a faster game. To speed up the game or to add an extra element, include as many Pass Cards as you like. If children turn over a Pass Card they can place it over any calculation they want, for instance if they are finding a calculation too difficult or if there is an answer card they are struggling to find. For differentiation, use mixed ability groups or else grant certain groups extra pass cards to cover more challenging calculations.
To ensure a smooth game, circulate with the answer key for at-a-glance checking. If groups have accidentally taken another group’s answer card, ensure they quickly replace it so as not to hamper the progress of other teams.

No prep required: Just print! Students use the answers to make a path through the maze. The correct pathway does not pass through all boxes.
Use again: You might want to laminate to use again and again, with students using a dry-wipe marker instead of a pencil or highlighter etc. They can easily erase if they go wrong.
Differentiation: There are mazes at two levels of challenge to suit different ages and abilities. Mazes work well for individuals, pairs or small groups. You might want to enlarge mazes for use by larger groups. The less challenging mazes go up to the 10 times table, while the more challenging mazes go up to the 12 times table. The less challenging mazes also have fewer paths.
Answer keys: You could print an answer key so you can quickly find students who have gone wrong and nudge them back on course! The mazes also promote self-correction as students retrace their steps to see where they have strayed from the correct path! You could display the answer key on the whiteboard at the end for self-checking.

Improving Sentences Worksheets: 40 sentence uplevelling trails at 2 levels to support students in writing more ambitious, complex sentences. Print as worksheets or laminate for regular use (with dry-wipe pens). Worked examples of extended sentences included.
Full Stops and Capital Letters Cards: 40 differentiated cards with an unpunctuated paragraph on one side and corrections on the other. They support students working out where sentences begin and end, to avoid fragments and run on sentences - a skill that often needs regular practice, even in Upper KS2. They are a great stepping stone to students more independently checking and editing their own writing. Instead of printing, display a card on screen for whole class completion. Answer versions can be shown on screen too for self- or peer-marking.

This is a BUNDLE of popular hands-on sentence ordering Key Stage 1 Writing resources. It contains 3 different full class sets or reusable simple sentence construction activities and is great for differentiation. The jumbled sentences sets now also come with additional worksheet versions of all 90 boards. Originally designed for Year 1 (Primary 2 in Scotland) SPaG / Grammar lessons, these activities could be used elsewhere in EYFS / Reception (Primary 1) and Key Stage 1, depending on ability.
Emergent writers love lifting the words off the boards to unscramble them to find the hidden simple sentence. With an engaging picture clue and title on each board, these word sequencing Literacy Basic Skills resources suit a range of learning styles. After carefully reading the jumbled words, your early writers correctly rearrange them on the board before writing the sentence out on the lines provided, using a dry-wipe pen. Regular practice with scrambled sentences should help children begin to form sentences independently.
There are 3 x 65-page PDF documents in Zip files, together with additional editable Word documents of the word cards only, in case you wish to change the font or colour of the words.
Each mixed-up sentence contains a word beginning with a capital letter to help children identify the first word and to reinforce this important punctuation rule, and a full stop (or question mark) to pick up and place at the end of their sentence. While constructing these sentences, children also learn about word order, parts of speech and about the fact that a sentence must make sense on its own.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Print in colour on quality card to make it sturdy and laminate for repeated use. It’s ideal for using as a regular activity, with children working on a different one each session. Or choose the ones you make up if working with a smaller group. It could be used with SEN / ASN groups or others requiring support with writing.
Words are printed in faint grey on each sheet in a random order. Once laminated, cut the word strips and stick each word on top of this faint type, using Blu Tack, Blu Tack ‘Glu Dots’ or equivalent. Each strip is in a different colour to help identify the board it is from. Train the children to replace the words to these starting positions and to wipe boards before putting them back. Good quality laminating pouches and easy-wipe pens will help with this!

Quelle est la date? Beginners French KS2 / KS3 (Year 4, 5, 6 and 7) Printable Speaking Games for revision of calendar and date vocabulary: 10 Four in a Row game boards and a Snakes and Ladders Board for practising saying the date in French. These resources will help you plan multiple lessons at Key Stage 2 or Key Stage 3 (upper Primary and early Secondary and equivalents) for students beginning French or near beginners requiring revision of basic vocab and phrases. Originally made for UK schools, I have also added US date format versions of both resources.

FOUR IN A ROW
I originally created this to help pupils answer the French question 'Quelle est la date?' but there is no reference to French on the boards so they can also be used for Italian, Spanish, German and other languages. Pupils will practise calendar vocabulary - months (les mois), days of the week (les jours de la semaine) and numbers to thirty-one.
Includes:
5 boards with the month and date
5 further boards with the month, date and day
A fun language learning activity - ideal for a starter, early finisher task, main lesson consolidation work or as part of a bank of revision activities. Print in either A3 or A4 and laminate for regular use. Individuals or pairs play against each other, taking it in turns to roll a dice before choosing a date in the correct column (columns are labelled 1-6) to say in the target language. If correct, they could put their symbol or initial over it in a wipeable pen or cover it with a counter of a different colour to their opponent. The first player/team to get 4 in a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally is the winner. With 10 boards in total, they can swap with other pairs/groups when finished to have another game.
SNAKES AND LADDERS
Pupils play as per normal Snakes and Ladders, only they have to say the date they land on in French. The US date format version of the game is on page 2 of the file. Instructions are on page 3.

Print and laminate. Play as normal Snakes and Ladders, but students say the French for the item they land on, or move back. An instruction card and details of a challenge version are included.
LOOP GAME
Use as whole class or group oral activity or a dominoes activity in pairs. 20-card set, ideal for a starter or plenary. Forms a continuous loop.
JIGSAW PUZZLE
30-piece Jigsaw Puzzle in PDF and solution. Colour and black and white versions. Print and laminate for regular use. Ideal for small groups or as an individual or paired task.
PICTURE ACTIVITY CARDS (Publisher file only as too big to load as PDF). Can be used as bingo cards or noughts and crosses / tic tac toe cards (students choose food and drink to say aloud in French before putting their symbol over them). 16 cards, 9 pictures on each. Could be used for other activities - cut them up into individual pictures for paired oral activities, for example.
