The classic Christmas poem Old Santaclaus with Much Delight with comprehension questions and writing challenge. Answers to the comprehension questions are included. The accompanying illustrations are also included.
This traditional anonymously written and illustrated children’s poem was published in New York in 1821, and was the first to mention and illustrate a Santa character.
Note that the final stanza of the eight stanza poem refers to naughty children being beaten by their parents.

Character overview template for the fantasy novel The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie. As pupils read the novel, they take notes about the characters using this character overview template.
This helps pupils to notice the details that are important for making predictions and understanding the story. The summaries that they create can be used to help with writing about characters and from the point of view of different characters.
A model template filled out after reading Chapter 1 has been included to show pupils how to use the resource to write summaries about each character using the information revealed in the book. Pupils should continue to take notes about each character after reading each chapter.

A punctuation mark matching activity with three levels of differentiation.
Pupils match each card showing a punctuation mark symbol with an explanation of its use and an example sentence or sentences.
An answer sheet is included.
This activity helps pupils to remember the names of punctuation marks and how they are used. It can be used when introducing new punctuation marks to a class in lower key stage two or as a revision activity for upper key stage two (or even KS3). This activity is ideal as a starter or plenary for an English/literacy lesson or punctuation lesson.

Three differentiated worksheets about the figurative language used in the refugee novel Oranges in No Man’s Land by award-winning novelist Elizabeth Laird.
Pupils identify a range of literary devices, including figurative language, from an extract from the novel.
This resource has been differentiated with three levels of challenge.
Pupils are asked to highlight and record examples of the following literary devices from the extract:
• Personification
• Hyperbole
• Metaphors
• Similes
• Powerful verbs
• Idioms
• Repetition
• Short sentences
Extracts and answer sheets are included for each skill level of differentiation.
An information sheet about literary devices has also been included.
This activity can be completed after reading Chapter 8 of the novel Oranges in No Man’s Land or can be given as a standalone lesson on literary devices including figurative language.
