This unit focuses on writing a friendly letter, but not just any friendly letter…a letter for Santa! Inside you will find a holiday word list to help with students’ spelling, a sample letter, and one with notations of what a friendly needs to have. I have been using these posters in my classroom for a couple of years now, and have found them to be very helpful in helping my students master the five types of text structure. As we read something new in class, we consider the text structure, and identify it by moving an arrow, that I made magnetic for my whiteboard, to point to the specific text structure that we are reading. This is a great way to foster analytical discussion with our students about this particular topic throughout the school year.
