This KS3 worksheet is a literacy task based around the theme of electricity - specifically showing understanding of Series and Parallel circuits. I decided to make this a bit more fun by adding a Christmas theme! (who doesn’t love Christmassy sparkly lights?!) The whole task is based around the question: ’Why do we use parallel circuits in Christmas lights instead of series circuits?' The worksheet is then chunked into three tasks - firstly drawing circuit diagrams and stating the difference in brightness of the bulbs. Secondly, writing bullet points to explain what happens if a bulb breaks in a series vs parallel circuit. Lastly is pulling this information together to write their answer. They should use the keywords provided and make sure they PEE (point, explain, evidence!). My students really enjoyed this task and it easily allowed for differentiation between the different abilities in my class. It also includes a super fast feedback sheet (I print this off double-sided with the worksheet). This includes a check list of what students have included or missed - you simply tick what they have done and highlight what they missed (or write in the space provided any individual feedback). There is then a space for the students to complete a response to your feedback.
