Wooden Snowman Gift Templates
The children in my class made this rather adorable wooden snowmen gifts for home <3
I showed them all how to measure and record how tall they all were, I cut each plank of wood to the children’s heights, the idea being that each Christmas their families could take them out and see how much they have grown!
Poem in the pack (1 X A4 and 1 X A5) reads:
“Lean this snowman against the wall,
To remind you when I was this small,
Fingerprints made the nose and eyes,
This snowman is just my size,
So take him out each Christmas and see,
I’m not as little as I used to be.”
Pack also contains 5 A4 display posters describing the process of making this project! :)

'Counting On' Cookies (Maths)
Counting on. An often enormously difficult skill to ask of children - to begin counting at a number that is not one and to sometimes count objects that are not visible.
I have used this ‘counting on cookies’ pack to successfully teach children this concept and the idea is simple. A number of cookies are selected, counted and placed under the flap of the oven. The temptation to recount these cookies is automatically prevented as the cookies are hidden. Instead I teach the children to place their hand on the oven, say the amount of cookies that are in there, then continue to count the rest of the cookies on the plate!
This lays the foundation for more advanced skills such as manipulating larger numbers, faster calculating and learning to apply this skill to other areas in learning in fluid and flexible ways.
