Library Reading Champion

I have been a librarian for over 15 years working in both public libraries and school libraries both in England and America. I love to bring excitement and creativity to my teaching! I believe the library should be the center of any school as it encompasses all aspects of learning. I love to help students find what they love to read!

Buttons on Your Computer

(0)
Buttons on Your Computer is a lesson meant for the very youngest users in your school. Very often students do not use desktop computers at home and may not even be familiar with how to use a mouse. This lesson is designed to help your students learn about the Minimize, Maximize and Close (Exit) buttons used with Windows computers. It is a fun and interactive lesson which will have your students excited and easily remembering those very important tools! What is included: Lesson Plan PowerPoint presentation Worksheets to use with the lesson - color and black and white options Buttons on Your Computer poster with printing instructions Audience: This lesson is suitable to be used with students in Kindergarten and 1st grade. If you find your older students struggle with these functions it would be useful to introduce the lesson to them as well. You know your students; feel free to adjust as needed. Lesson: This lesson is best used at the beginning of the year with young students who are not familiar with Windows based computers. It can be used after my Learn the Parts of a Computer lesson. Students should each be at a computer or laptop so that they are able to do the practice themselves. This version of Buttons on Your Computer is based on Windows 7; if you would like a Windows 10 version made just leave me a comment. I’m happy to tailor lessons to your needs.

Make a Shelf Marker Activity

Shelf Markers are a handy tool for students to use when browsing for books. When the student removes a book to look at it, teach them to place the shelf marker in that spot so that they remember where it came from! Not only does this teach them to be responsible library users but it makes your job of shelving much easier too! Teach them how to use them during the first few weeks of school! This activity will prove to be helpful the whole year through! The students will have a quiet time to fill in the sentence on one side or perhaps just draw a picture if they are younger. Once they add their names you can collect them. Put a bar code on either side and not only will this act as a shelf marker while they are searching for books but it will also help you to get to know their names at check-out. This activity is customizable in many ways: · Print either in color or black and white · Print double-sided or single-sided · Choose which level is appropriate for your age group · Use with a bar code for easy check-outs · Can be used as a quick way to take attendance · Color-code for your classes · Print on card stock or laminate to ensure a robust design · Many cute animals to choose from or have a mix! (Husky/wolf, bear, sloth, rabbit/bunny, crocodile, narwhal, owl and parrot) Subject Classroom Management, Library Skills, Back to School Grade Levels PreK, Kindergarten, 1st Resource Type Lesson Plans (Individual), Activities, Printables
