I encourage my beginner French students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display, and plain. The background does help to make vocabulary display a little more visually appealing for students, which is a real motivator for learning. Have a browse in my store for more freebie French vocabulary lists, including a selection of visual vocabulary lists for very young learners, and a wide range of other French teaching and learning materials, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. FRENCH VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER

(3)
GCSE FRENCH CONJUGATION PRACTICE SAMPLER I’ve created a lot of quick conjugation workbooks for my students and they’re really popular and effective. They’re a great way of practising, reinforcing and revising how to conjugate all the various verb groups and tenses in French. I use them in a range of learning contexts such as independent work either in class time or at home, holiday refresher work, or individual activities for cover lessons. Students really benefit from several opportunities to work through the workbook, once or twice a term across a whole school year is a great way of both mapping progress and developing overall understanding and competence. The workbooks focus on specific sets of 25 high-frequency verbs in a range of tenses. They include modals, regular, irregular & mixed and reflexive verbs. Each workbook is structured as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French : English and English : French Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps sheet, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of French conjugation works, what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. 6-page answer key booklet In this sampler: high-frequency verbs list: French-English -IR & -OIR verbs list: English-French regular -ER verbs present tense conjugation: Challenge 1 with answer key regular & irregular -RE verbs perfect tense conjugation: Challenge 2 with answer key regular & irregular -IR & -OIR verbs: imperfect tense conjugation: Challenge 3 with answer key regular & irregular high-frequency verbs simple future tense conjugation: Challenge 1 with answer key regular -ER verbs conditional tense conjugation: Challenge 2 with answer key regular & irregular -RE verbs future perfect tense conjugation: Challenge 3 with answer key Files are non-editable in a zipped format. GERMAN IDIOMS POSTERS FREEBIE #3

GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN IDIOMS German Speaking Practice Encouraging students to speak can be quite challenging in the languages classroom, and I’ve found that even my more advanced learners can be quite reluctant, especially if the group is fairly large. I use a range of strategies to promote speaking, and idioms, proverbs and fun expressions which sound quite strange when translated literally are really popular - for example, we have regular competitions to see who can get the most idioms or expressions into dialogues and conversations. This works really well for students of all stages and ages. The posters show the literal translation, which generally sounds very odd, such as this particular idiom Das ist nicht mein Bier - That is not my beer! and the correct corresponding translation. We also discuss other possible translations into English, which helps them understand the concept of translation, and that there are potentially many correct ways of expressing meaning accurately. The posters also lend the learning environment a real German ambiance, promoting the everyday use of German. There are two backgrounds - the German flag looks great, but definitely uses a lot of ink, so you may prefer the poster without a background - this looks just as good! Keep checking back for more posters if you like them, as I have a huge collection! The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. Sopas de Letras are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a fruits word search with answer key, perfect for beginner Spanish learners of all grades. The fruits include masculine, feminine, singular and plural, with a blend of definite and indefinite articles - this really helps learners think a little more creatively about language, and their new Spanish vocabulary - they may learn la manzana, and it’s useful to give students opportunity to think about grammatical concepts, and how la becomes una for example. There is a Spanish to English grid, where learners are prompted with the Spanish word, and look for them in Spanish in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! Learners can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Spanish and English, and facilitates learner independence. There is an answer key grid, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are really essential - they offer learners an additional opportunity to engage with language, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ their own, and particularly each others’ work! They’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! The word search is in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for beginner language learners. This kind of activity is really versatile - I use as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the school year, as well as when I’m focusing on fruits in Spanish. Have a browse in my store for more Spanish word searches, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish resource boxes, special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies. ¡GRACIAS Y BUEN PROVECHO!

I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of Spanish, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing half past the hour in Spanish, so that they can practise and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too. FRENCH CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY LIST FREEBIE

(6)
PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH YEAR 7 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORDS & PICTURES A great French Christmas picture & vocabulary reference resource for younger learners of French. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. There are 20 common French Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning French. I’ve used a blend of masculine and feminine nouns, definite article and indefinite article and there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about articles, the concept of gender in French (which is often quite contrary to some learners’ first language, such as English), and forming the plural in French. It’s also great for promoting discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in France and French regions, as well as other French-speaking countries, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their French learning programme, they’ll have a comprehensive French Christmas vocabulary bank. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Christmas colours (which I tend to use as part of a French Christmas display), and blackline snow. ITALIAN NUMBERS 0-31 I HAVE, WHO HAS FREEBIE

(5)
PRIMARY ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN KS2 ITALIAN Italian Numbers 0-31 Io ho Chi ha? This is a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31 in Italian. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. The aim of the game is to create an Italian number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card zero, and ending with the final card, trentuno. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my young beginner learners, but I’ve also played the game with my adult learners, who really enjoy it too - the monster theme is popular with everyone! The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with the written word. Try to print in color if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning. Download, print out, laminate, cut out & shuffle the cards. I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I often play too - students really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little bit harder on their concentration, reading out loud and pronunciation. Students walk around the room, talking to each other in their best Italian accent, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can students beat beat their own time record? I always do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play! It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. I give my students of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive reference bank over the course of their German programme. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their German when they have a good grasp of core German vocabulary. They’re great for quick vocab quizzes too. There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that beginner German students prefer to have both as a reference resource. I’ve noted where a verb is separable, irregular or conjugated with sein. If my group is small, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. My students all have a reference file or folder, again from the beginning of their learning, and part of helping them develop independence in, and responsibility for, their learning, is to give them opportunity to keep their learning resources in good order, and easily accessible. The verbs are all in the infinitive form - it’s an important step in learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency German reflexive verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in English - at that point we can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context. We also use our reference lists to help students audit their developing German verb vocabulary. The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency German reflexive verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German grammar or German vocabulary display, and plain. All the questions are in German, with the Christmas images providing students with visual learning support. The Christmas vocabulary and images help to develop students’ awareness of a range of Christmas traditions and figures in German-speaking countries, and are also really useful for stimulating discussion about German Christmas practices and customs. This is a great alternative to more standard presentations and worksheets. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: = 12 differentiated question cards - laminate if possible, as they will remain in excellent condition for years = answer key - this can also be laminated, and shared among groups of students for class work = answer recording sheet - simply print as many as your particular groups need. My students generally use their class workbooks for working out and noting responses, though recording sheets are definitely useful for more formal assessment purposes. I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Spanish, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Children glue the lists into their Spanish vocabulary books, or file them in their Spanish vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful Spanish vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. For young and / or beginner Spanish learners, I focus initially on a single time set, and this list shows quarter past the hour on a single page. This is because in my experience students benefit from a very clear outline of new language and vocabulary, avoiding lots of text on a single page - even my older students who are completely new to Spanish prefer this. When I’m sure that students are confident with a particular time set, I then move on to additional time sets. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag, which I use for Spanish vocabulary display, or plain. **Try this super simple worksheets freebie, focusing on how to tell the time in Spanish quarter past the hour: HOW TO TELL THE TIME IN SPANISH : QUARTER PAST THE HOUR WORKSHEETS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-telling-the-time-quarter-past-worksheets-freebie-12866233 Have a browse in my store for more Spanish visual vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other Spanish teaching and learning materials, with Spanish resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

PRIMARY MATHS NUMBERS 0-31 I HAVE WHO HAS FREEBIE

(6)
PRIMARY MATHS KS1 KS2 Numbers 0-31 I have, Who has? game This is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to count from 0 - 31. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading out loud, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. The aim of the game is to create a number chain as quickly as possible, starting with the first card ZERO, and ending with the final card, THIRTY-ONE. The game works just as well if the number sequence is placed on the floor, a longish table, or other flat surface. The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for young learners who are starting to familiarize themselves with both numbers and the written word. Try to print in colour if you can - it adds to the visual appeal of the game, which is a real motivator for learning. The *monster theme *is really popular too. I often play too - children really do enjoy it when I join in, and they seem to work that little harder on their concentration and reading out loud. Children walk around the room, talking to each other in their best reading out loud voice, sharing the information on their cards, until they have arranged the numbers in the correct order. The game works best played against a timer, regularly over a longer-term series of lessons - can children beat their own time record? Do some high-speed counting warm-up activities, forwards & backwards, to get everyone ready to play! Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my Primary French and beginner KS3 French students, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing half past the hour in French, so that they can practise and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too. The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too.
