LATIN NUMBERS & ROMAN NUMERALS LIST FREEBIE #1

PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN NUMBERS ROMAN NUMERALS 0-20 A great instant reference resource for students focusing on beginner Latin vocabulary. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. We use our reference lists to help students audit their developing beginner Latin vocabulary. They’re useful printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class. Numbers and Roman Numerals definitely provide lots of ***opportunities for cross-curricular learnin***g in class time, particularly with mental maths games, which really helps beginner Latin learners get to grips with the target vocabulary. There are two backgrounds to choose from: colour or black wave - I use the colour background for Latin vocabulary display, and I find that the wave background adds a ***visual appea***l to the vocabulary list, which can be a real motivator for learning, particularly when students have a lot of vocabulary to learn. Have a browse in my store for more Latin vocabulary lists, and a wide range of other Latin teaching and learning activities, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! FRENCH ANIMALS FLASHCARDS #1

(2)
PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These French animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous French look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of French. They introduce learners to a range of animals in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are une. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ours and loup. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: a bear : a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a dog : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey : a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a rabbit : a spider : a squirrel : a turtle / a tortoise : a wolf It doesn’t matter if some of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters / flashcards provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are three sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, each with a different background for you to choose from: French flag, animal footprint or black wave. FRENCH VERBS (2) - CHRISTMAS DOMINOES GAMES - 2 GAMES, 2 CHALLENGES!

(1)
PERFECT FOR PRACTISING & REVISING 99 ESSENTIAL FRENCH VERBS - 2 GAMES, 2 CHALLENGES! NEWLY-REVISED AND UPDATED RESOURCE WITH A THIRD CHALLENGE COMING FOR CHRISTMAS 2018! Dotty Christmas Dominoes are a lively and festive alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar 'drilling' activities. They encourage students to focus on high-frequency verbs and help them identify cognates and faux amis, learning quite independently of the teacher - the activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. This resource features a further 99 high-frequency French verbs in the infinitive form, with their English equivalent. If you’ve got a particular focus on vocabulary and grammar, Sets 1 and 2 are also available as a bundle for £5.00 here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/dotty-christmas-dominoes-198-high-frequency-french-verbs-with-2-levels-of-challenge-11173737 There are two levels of challenge in this set: CHILLOUT CHALLENGE, with the verbs in alphabetical order CHAMPION CHALLENGE, with the verbs in topsy-turvy order – your students will really have to know their French verbs to create a perfect dominoe sequence! The verbs are in the infinitive form in French & English, and reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order are included – students can use these as a support resource, and they double as a whole-group pronunciation practice resource too. I've classed the resource as suitable for Years 9-13, but it really does depend on the age at which your students begin their French learning, as well as the level they are currently at – and aspire to. They are definitely one for the visual and/or kinaesthetic learner. The dominoes do take a bit of prep - printing & laminating. Laminating is certainly worth the effort and expense, as you will be able to re-use the cards for many Christmastimes to come. The resource comprises a single pdf file. Please read the Terms of Use carefully – this resource is copyright, and for single-classroom use only. Merci beaucoup et Joyeux Noël!

GERMAN VERBS DOMINOES #1

GCSE GERMAN DOMINOES GAMES High-frequency German verbs dominoes games: 3 games and challenges are a lively alternative to more traditional grammar & vocabulary ‘drilling’ activities. They will help students build up and embed their vocabulary and knowledge of high-frequency German verbs in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 99 common German verbs in the infinitive form, along with the corresponding English verbs. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino bilingual verb sequence, on the classroom floor, or on a long(ish) table, by matching the German and English verbs. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading, and also helps students identify cognates and words that may look similar to English, but mean something different. There are three games, each with a different level of challenge: Challenge One features the verbs in alphabetical order, German to English Challenge Two features the verbs in random order, also German to English Challenge Three again features the verbs in random order, but this time from English to German, which works a little different in terms of vocab recall There’s a full alphabetical German-English verb list, which students find really useful as they begin to build and embed their verb vocabulary - we find it useful to have a quick look through the list prior to playing for the first time, and it’s also really good for some additional whole-group pronunciation practice. Each challenge is on a different background, so that they can be easily identified. To ensure successful learning, play regularly as you work with verbs and vocabulary - against a timer in teams works well to map both improved recall and word recognition, as well as increasing confidence - students genuinely enjoy seeing if they can beat their own time record. Dominoes games work really well in language learning as a free-choice activity - I have folders of resources for students to select their own activity, according to what they feel they would most like to revisit. We have free-choice activity time every few lessons for a half hour or so, which also provides a welcome break from the particular target focus. There’s definitely prep involved - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games, as they’re far more learner-friendly, and they last for absolutely years, so once you’re prepped the set or several sets, you will never have to prep the games again. SPANISH VOCABULARY CHRISTMAS GAMES CARDS & QUIZZES

(2)
KS3 CHRISTMAS PRIMARY SPANISH VOCABULARY CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES TWO SETS @ £1.80 EACH IN THE BUNDLE 396 BEGINNER SPANISH & ENGLISH VOCABULARY CARDS, 198 WORDS & PHRASES WITH TWO MULTI-SKILL 60-QUESTION QUIZZES I think that lessons in the run-up to Christmas provide the perfect opportunity to revisit language we’ve learnt earlier in the school year - my beginner Spanish students really enjoy going back over and consolidating the vocab that they were introduced to right at the beginning of their learning. I created various sets of Christmas-themed vocab cards to get them feeling festive - it definitely works! I tend to have several sets all ready, and keep them in learning folders, so that students can choose which vocab groups they want to work on, though often they like to work with the complete set, so it’s a good idea to have a couple of sets so that there are enough to go round. The Santa cards have vocabulary in the following word groups: = Los saludos = Los días de la semana = Los meses del año = Las cuatro estaciones del año = Los números 0 a 31 = Los colores = Los países del mundo The Snowmen cards have vocabulary in the following word groups: = Los animales (indefinite article, all singular) = Las partes del cuerpo (definite article, range of singular and plural) = El tiempo = Las frutas y verduras (definite article) = Las asignaturas (definite article) My students really like to learn independently, and I’ve described a range of games that they particularly enjoy. They love the competitive element of the whole-group quizzes, though the pdf version works really well too for small groups - and if you’re homeschooling. There are a lot of cards, which means quite a bit of prep - if you can, laminate them, not only because they’re far better to learn with, but also because you’ll be able to use them over and over again for years! The quizzes are no-prep, and good to go - they’re non-editable, because of the Terms of Use of the clipart and fonts I’ve used, so have a quick look through before you play - the whole-group version moves forward with a single click. The Santas and Snowmen are also available separately, priced at £3 each. Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. My students love to play these dominoes games and find them a lively and interactive alternative to more traditional vocabulary and grammar ‘drilling’ activities. They enjoy being able to work and learn independently, and I give them regular chances during the school year to play. The focus is on 99 high-frequency GERMAN verbs in the infinitive form. There are 3 games, each with a differentiated level of challenge. CHILLOUT CHALLENGE features the verbs in alphabetical order, GERMAN to English CHAMPION CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, GERMAN to English SUPERCHARGED CHALLENGE features the verbs in topsy-turvy order, ENGLISH to GERMAN - your students will really have to know their GERMAN verbs to complete this sequence in record time! I’ve included reference sheets of all verbs in both alphabetical and topsy-turvy order for students to use as a learning support resource. I’ve classed the game as suitable for ages 11-18, because it really does depend on when your students begin GERMAN - the games work well with any appropriate year group, depending on their starting point. There’s a bit of prep - printing and cutting out. I always laminate my dominoes games because they last for years, so laminating is definitely worth the time and effort. The resource is non-editable. LATIN GRAMMAR LATIN VERBS LATIN VOCABULARY **PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING LATIN LANGUAGE SKILLS AS WELL AS PRACTISING AND REVISING 99 ESSENTIAL LATIN VERBS! ** This set of games and activities featuring 99 high-frequency Latin verbs offers an interactive and communicative alternative to ‘traditional’ vocabulary and grammar drilling activities, and really does help to create a lively and multi-skill language learning environment. The Latin-English alphabetical reference list of all 99 verbs in the infinitive form, with the first person singular conjugated, works well as a learning support resource. The cards are versatile, and can be used for a number of language learning games; I’ve described several games you can play and ways you can use them in the classroom. They’re great for a ready-made quick vocab quiz too! The game card template lets your students put their knowledge of Latin verbs to the test as they create cards for each other - preferably from memory! There are 198 matching Latin and English verb cards - it’s a lot of prep, particularly if you laminate them - but it’s definitely worth the effort, as they last for years, and are very popular with students across the entire school year. The Reference, Recall and Write workbook has 18 pages, and is best photocopied double-sided, and double-stapled in workbook format for students to work through either in direct class time, or as independent learning at home. I encourage my students to complete the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS TEMPLATE regularly to help them reflect on their learning, and to set progress targets. We also use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is also a really useful activity. There are 3 differentiated recall and write challenges: Recall Challenge One Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a Latin prompt - the Latin verbs are in alphabetical order Recall Challenge Two Students recall and write all the verbs in English from a Latin prompt, with the verbs appearing in random, rather than alphabetical order Recall Challenge Three Students recall and write all the verbs, including the conjugation of the first person singular, in Latin from an English prompt. GERMAN TELLING TIME I HAVE, WHO HAS GAMES #1

(1)
KS3 GERMAN KS4 TELLING TIME O’CLOCK, HALF PAST, QUARTER TO AND QUARTER PAST THE HOUR - TWO GAMES, TWO DIFFERENTIATED CHALLENGES! I HAVE, WHO HAS? is a lively & communicative whole-group language learning game. The repetitive nature of the questions and answers, supported by the visual prompt of the clock faces, makes it perfect for practising, reinforcing & refreshing how to tell the time in GERMAN. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. Half past the hour can be really tricky for beginner German learners, and these kinds of games really help to embed it. The aim of the game is to arrange the clocks in the correct order, starting with the first card, Es ist ein Uhr/Es ist acht Uhr, and ending with the last card Es ist viertel vor zwölf / Es ist viertel nach zwölf. Students can either create a human chain timeline, holding the cards themselves, or a card timeline, on the floor, a longish table or other flat surface. There are two games and two challenges: CHALLENGE 1 with the clock times in numerical order, and the Q & A Ich habe… Hast du…? CHALLENGE 2 with the clock times in topsy-turvy order, and the Q & A Hast du… Ja, ich habe… . This really encourages students to focus on their GERMAN clock times! Students can identify the particular challenge by the colour of the card - the font is also different, so printing is B&W is absolutely fine too. Play either as a whole-group game, or as a team game - which team can complete the challenge first? You can either play the challenges consecutively, or as a team game, swapping the challenges so that each team has a chance to play both challenges. This set features analogue clock times, 1-12, including midday and midnight, with o’clock, half past, a quarter to and a quarter past the hour. There are four cards with eight clock faces per page, which I’ve found to be the ideal size for students learning to tell the time, and with the multi-skill practice the games facilitate. The resource itself consists of a single, non-editable file. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - this resource is copyright, all rights reserved. FRENCH ER VERBS NEAR FUTURE TENSE

(1)
GCSE FRENCH NEAR FUTURE TENSE -ER VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE, featuring 25 high-frequency French -ER verbs. I've used these kinds of quick conjugation workbooks for years with my students, and they find them really useful. They like to practise the conjugations regularly across the school year, and with the answer key, they're able to work and learn completely independently. The workbook's really versatile - I use them in lots of different contexts, for example for directed practice when I'm introducing the near future tense, for free-choice class time, for vacation practice, for home learning and for sub lessons. The 10-page workbook has this structure: * Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French * Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: CHALLENGE 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation CHALLENGE 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French CHALLENGE 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt There's a Notes and Next Steps template which students visit regularly - it really does encourage them to think about where they are now, how confident they feel, and what they might need to work on a little more to be absolutely sure of their conjugation skills. We also note down any new verbs we meet, which enables students to build up their own verb vocab bank. It's a great tool to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really successful and popular activity. Each workbook has an accompanying 6-page answer key book - this is absolutely essential in my opinion - answer keys help students develop more insight and independence in their learning, and of course, self and peer assessing does give them a further opportunity to engage with the conjugations - additionally, they really enjoy correcting each others' work! There are 3 non-editable files in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. FRENCH ER VERBS IMPERFECT TENSE CONJUGATION PRACTICE FOCUSING ON 25 FRENCH -ER VERBS My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I've found it's really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. There are 150 conjugations across 3 differentiated conjugation challenges with a full answer key. I use these kinds of workbooks in lots of different ways: for practice during the introduction phase, for independent choice in class time, for home learning, for practice and revision during vacation and at return to class, and for cover lessons - they're really versatile, and ideal for advanced beginner to intermediate French students who want to practice and refresh their conjugation skills in French, and work on the imperfect tense a little more. The workbooks focus on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, and I've found that when my students are able to provide the correct conjugation very quickly, and out of a specific context, they feel really confident that their conjugation skills are developing well. The resource is structured as follows: * Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. * Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Having an answer key also gives them an additional opportunity to engage with language and grammar. The format is as follows: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: French-English and English-French. Three conjugation challenges, each with 50 individual conjugations: Conjugation Challenge 1: each verb conjugated in French across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding English verb conjugation. Conjugation Challenge 2: gives the infinitive of each verb in French, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in French. Conjugation Challenge 3: students write the corresponding French verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an English prompt. Notes and Next Steps, which encourages students to think about how their understanding of French conjugation works, reflect on what progress they have made, what their targets for improvement might realistically be, and what they might reasonably do in order to meet those targets. They also use this page to note any new verbs they learn, which helps them build up a comprehensive verb vocabulary. It’s also a useful tool to guide and inform whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really popular activity with my students. *6-page answer key booklet * Try this free conjugation workbook sampler to see if it’s the kind of learning activity that will work well for your students: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-verbs-conjugation-practice-sampler-12307809 Have a browse in my store for more French grammar activities, with a wide range of French language teaching and learning materials, with special offer bundles, resource boxes, and lots of freebies too! GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS PERFECT TENSE

GCSE GERMAN KS4 GERMAN KS3 GERMAN SEPARABLE VERBS CONJUGATION PRACTICE 25 high-frequency German separable verbs, 150 conjugation questions, 3 differentiated challenges, answer keys ideal for advanced KS3 German students who are working with more complex language and texts, and KS4 German students who are revising tense and conjugation. My students really like this kind of grammar activity, as they like to work and learn independently, which is a successful way of varying teaching and learning methodologies - I’ve found it’s really important to avoid predominantly teacher-led learning in the languages classroom. The focus is on common separable prefixes such as ab, an, aus, ein, um and zu. Prefixes such as entlang and entgegen are not included in this particular collection of verbs. I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example with the perfect tense, students need to have a good grasp of the relevant auxiliary in the present tense - there are verbs that require either haben or sein, and to get used to ensuring that the past participle is situated at the end of the clause or sentence. Forming the past participle follows a certain pattern, which students are able to***identify and predict*** the more they work with conjugation, and these quick conjugations will certainly help to embed that successfully. The resource has the following structure: Two alphabetical verb reference lists: German-English and English-German.
