Christmas Pirate Activity

This is a great activity for last week of term Christmas . I've shamelessly altered the original but don't know who the original author was so i take no credit for the basis of this. I've removed the "killing" and "bombing" of the original with more suitable christmassy things - like the Grinch and Scrooge... Pupils fill a grid with money and icons and the teacher then proceeds to randomly call out coordinates. Students have to keep a running total of their "bank" and there's lot of interactivity. Great for basic numeracy, coordinates and laughs!

Year 9 Foundation Homework Booklet

(5)
A targeted homework booklet for my year 9 foundation class. There are 10 questions on 10 topics common to each homework. there are designed to get progressively harder each time to ensure progress and confidence is developed. I give this fortnightly and ensure the pupils green pens their corrections. This then allows the booklet to become a revision booklet for them and is great evidence for a marking and feedback policy. So far it has seen really positive results increasing pupils confidence in giving a wrong answer. Hope you find it useful

Year 8 Low ability homework booklet

A targeted homework booklet I created for my low ability year 8's. There are 10 topic areas each page. The are designed to get incrementally harder each week. I give this homework fortnightly and ensure that the lesson I hand it back, pupils green pen their corrections. So far this has seen really positive results in increasing their ability with the basics and has allowed me to embed a philosophy that it's ok to be wrong, providing we can correct our mistakes.

Solving Equations QR Code Treasure Hunt

Students are encouraged to use their smartphones for academic purposes by scanning the codes presented on the treasure hunt. On every slide there is three QR codes. All three questions on one slide lead to the same next slide. On this particular resource, the left code is for higher ability students and the right code for lower ability. By using QR codes it allows pupils to work more independently at their own pace and at a difficulty which can initially be suggested by a teacher. I will instruct certain students to follow the right hand column for instance or push my high end to start on the left. Since all three codes lead to the next question, students can go back to a higher level question with the answer and try to scaffold themselves as to how to get there. The actual questions can be found in the "notes" browser of powerpoint at the bottom and the answers are on the next slide
