3 tasks I set my Y7 and Y8 students for remote learning about the Rock Cycle. The students all drew the diagram of the rock cycle in their book. Higher ability annotated it with the clues AND added extra detail via the stretch questions, middle ability annotated without the stretch questions. I have included my attempt/modelling, which I attached to assist students with this task. Low ability drew a simpler diagram and copied & completed a gap fill (very low reading ages - some pre-reception). High and mid ability then wrote a story/created a storyboard to describe the journey of a piece of rock at point 1, all the way through the cycle to point 12. This was followed by a Kahoot challenge and an educake quiz. Students use the information in the table to find out about the different rock types and fill in the table. I followed this up with: 'Write a guide for a Brownies/Scouts/Guides group to explain how they can decide whether a rock is sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.‘ Stretch task: do this as a flow chart.’
