Students use the information in the table to find out about the different rock types and fill in the table. I followed this up with: 'Write a guide for a Brownies/Scouts/Guides group to explain how they can decide whether a rock is sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.‘ Stretch task: do this as a flow chart.’

Worksheet on naming salts and the reactions of acids and metals.

Activity in which students sort the statements into categories according to which type of reaction they are. Print out the slide of statements and they write them in the appropriate column. There is a pre-made table for students who this would benefit, and one slide where the statements are pre-coloured into categories - they just need to figure out which colour of statements apply to which reaction. There is also a differentiated gap fill activity for students who would struggle to access the sorting activity, and an answer sheet for this.

Combined instruction/results sheet used for a short Y7 practical on voltage in series circuits. Students measure the voltage across each individual bulb, then across the battery, to see if there is a link. Limited written instructions, so used with SEN students or those who find reading/interpreting instructions difficult.

This was designed with OCR 21st Century Science C4 (Material Choices - Improving the Properties of Materials) in mind, but alloys are covered on many syllabuses and this could easily be adapted. Students look at various food labels and find out how much protein, fat (including saturates), carbohydrates (including sugars), fibre and minerals are in each product.

Information sheets to be placed around the room to answer questions. I then followed this with the ‘Chase the Elements’ activity available here on TES by another author.

Worksheet I created for Y7 with the AQA Activate 1 - Forces at a Distance topic in mind, although it could be used/adapted for other specifications and year groups. There are 2 worksheets (one has been condensed to 1 page, whereas the other has larger text and boxes) and sheets for the extension task to be placed around the room (all images used on this sheet are under a CC0 license, free for personal or commerical use without attribution). The students will need graph paper to complete the second part of the extension. Hope you and your students enjoy it!

Students research the periodic table using laptops (or information sheets) and fill in their sheet, then produce a leaflet on the periodic table and atomic structure. You can easily change the ‘demonstrate’ task at the bottom of the sheet or add another question.
