Letter to my teacher (Year 7 intro lesson/Getting to know you)

This PowerPoint is a series of 2 lessons that helps students write a formal letter to their new English teacher. Lesson 1 - Discussing the difference between formal and informal writing, planning the letter using a mindmap (helpsheet with prompt questions on to support this) Lesson 2 - Writing the letter. I use this lesson with new Year 7 classes, although it could easily be adapted for any new class you teach. I find it a useful introductory activity so I can get a quick idea of abilities, handwriting, pace of working, etc. Did you find this resource helpful? In this resource students follow through the instructions that you read out to create their own poem. It would make a great activity for National Poetry Day, or as an introductory lesson to poetry. It’s lots of fun to do and pupils tend to enjoy it! It is best suited to a KS3 class and works for all abilities, but could be used for any class really (I have used it with KS5 who loved it!) N.B. I have included a Word Doc. and a PDF of the worksheet for your convenience. Did you find this resource helpful? Design A Theme Park

In the resource, pupils design their own theme park! Task 1 - designing a map Task 2 - creating a persuasive leaflet Task 3 - Oracy - creating a TV advert The project usually takes around 9 lessons to complete. For Task 3, you can get digitial literacy involved by having pupils create a Powerpoint and do voiceovers of their script. It works well as an end of term ‘bolt-on’ unit. I usually use it in the summer term! Did you find this resource helpful? Please consider leaving the resource a quick review to help others decide whether they should download it too. Alliteration - Cover lesson

(0)
A handy worksheet that guides pupils through what alliteration is. Pupils look at examples of alliteration and then have a go at writing some of their own for an alphabet of animals. If time, pupils can then write their own animal poem using some alliteration. Would suit a low ability group or KS3. Did you find this resource helpful? This lesson is ideal for a new Year 7 class, or a new low-ability class. It is a great way for pupils to get to know you better, and for you to get to know them! The PowerPoint guides pupils through a fun activity where they draw objects and explain why they are relevant to them. It starts off with pupils guessing more about you based on the objects you have selected, and then they complete their own. Did you find this resource helpful?
