A well planned and fully resourced unit of work on the book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. My class (which was made up of a lots of reluctant readers) absolutely loved this unit! Hooked was an understatement! This unit of work is ideal for a 4 week unit on fantasy writing (22 lessons in total). It includes all planning, resources and slides needed for the 22 lessons. This unit covers the following: 1 - understand features found in fantasy narratives a. gallery lesson (music / pictures / text ) & children to make inferences b. Comprehension Q’s - retrieval c. personal response to text (thoughts, predictions etc) d. Comprehension Q’s - making inferences about character feelings e. SPAG - apostrophes - indicate plural and singular possession f. SPAG - using subordinating conjunctions 2 - character a. SPAG - expanded noun phrases b. create and describe character c. SPAG - direct speech d. explore how authors use characterisation e. use language to write a characterisation 3 - settings A. SPAG - fronted adverbials - how and where adverbials B. SPAG - range of sentence openers (building on previous lesson) C. create and describe setting D. explore how author uses atmosphere E. use language to create atmosphere F. SPAG - paragraphs 4 - WRITING a. planning b - d. WRITE OVER 3 DAYS e. edit and improve writing The slides are created using either ActivInspir software or Microsoft Powerpoint. However, if you have any issues over the slides, I can alternatively save them as PDF or JPEG files which can still be used as a series of slides (please just leave a review and ask and I can make any adjustments)
