A well planned and fully resourced unit of work on the book “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. My class (which was made up of a lots of reluctant readers) absolutely loved this unit! A collection of word mats / supporting materials to support children when they are writing narratives / fictional stories. Most of the skills found on the prompts are the vital components for any good story. The prompts are A4-sized, and almost all of them have one clear focus per prompt. I found this helped to prevent information overload. These prompts are colourful and helpful. I have found them to be very useful to move children on from their targets. For example, if child A is struggling with sentence openers, I could get out the specific writing prompt to support them with that target. The powerpoint includes a word mat for: describing characters describing settings powerful verbs sentence openers apostrophes and direct speech (punctuation) paragraphs They are suitable for Y4-Y6 (the prompts cover the majority of the objectives found on the “working at the expected standard” assessment framework.
