KS3 Classroom Based Devising Project Scheme of Work
**KS3 Drama Scheme of Work on Devising At Desks Using ‘Free’ by David Grant **
This is a 7 week scheme of work aimed at Year 8 students although could easily be adapted for any KS3 year group.
This has been created for KS3 lessons in a classroom at desks (although could be adapted to a drama room too). The idea is that the lessons build to a whole class devised performance, using the play ‘Free’ by David Grant as a stimulus. The students play students, in a classroom, who are left without a teacher. I have aimed to introduce students to a few different ways to approach devising scenes.

One live lesson which I did with students when they were isolating.
I completed the project in small groups as students could move around the room, however this could easily be done as an individual project with scope to be completed at home if needed.
I hope it helps someone out during these strange times!

KS3 Drama 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime' Scheme of Work
’The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime’ the play by Simon Stephens KS3 Drama Scheme of Work
This is a 7 week Drama scheme of work aimed at Year 8 students although could easily be adapted for any KS3 year group. I have planned for 7 weeks in the scheme but I have also completed it over a 6 week and 8 week term as well - the assessment task or the physical theatre lesson can take an additional lesson.
The scheme has a focus on character relationships in the play. It does include one physical theatre lesson, but this is not the main focus of the scheme.
The scheme covers - introduction to the plot, understanding Christopher, Christopher and Ed, Christopher and Siobhan, physical theatre (at the train station) and an assessment task exploring a short scene and a monologue.
This resources includes;
Workbook
PowerPoints for each of the 7 lessons.
Resources
The resources does include short extracts from the play itself, however I would suggest that you try to get a copy of the book yourself as it will support in the teaching of the scheme.
Images from Noun Project are accredited in the Notes section of the PowerPoints.

I don’t include the assessment extracts in this as there is quite a sizeable amount of the script included. GCSE Drama Dictionary
GCSE Drama Dictionary
The GCSE Drama Dictionary is a workbook, with a range of drama terminology on the left side, then a blank space on the right for the students to complete their own definitions. It is designed to be completed across the GCSE course, as and when specific terminology is covered in lessons. I have previously used the workbook as a starter, plenary or even to be completed during cover lessons and then as a revision guide at the end of the course.
The drama terms are split into different areas, such as voice and physicals skills. It also covers lighting terminology and backstage terms, as well as a practitioners, stage area and stage types section.
Terminology is generic so covers all GCSE specifications.

Drama Student Role Cards for Differentiation.
I have these printed and laminated on lanyards. Students may be given a specific role in lessons depending on the tasks given to the class. These work well to support students to explore roles that they may not have previously tried.
Each card has a couple of questions to support in their role.
Monologue and Duologue Rehearsal Technique Cards
Monologue and Duologue Rehearsal Technique Support Cards
Developed to aid students when they are in rehearsal for their GCSE or A Level scripted performances however many of the activities would also work well with younger students.
Includes 32 rehearsal techniques to help students in the rehearsal process - there are 26 techniques in the monologue cards and then an additional 6 exclusively for the duologue cards. Each card also includes reflection questions to support to consider how the technique could support their final performance.
I have a number of these card sets printed and laminated on keychains so that each group can select the rehearsal technique appropriate to them in the rehearsal lessons, however you could also have cards printed separately so that you could select the technique for them.
I have included the PDF file (ready to print) and the PowerPoint, in case you wish to adapt the wording of a technique or want to add your own rehearsal techniques. You may need to change the font on the titles if you use the PowerPoint version as I downloaded this font.
Some of the activities are the same as those in my Devising Theatre Support Cards, however there is also a range of additional techniques.
History of Theatre Scheme of Work
History of Theatre Scheme of Work
Aimed at Key Stage Four Drama.
This scheme of work covers a practical exploration of Greek Theatre, Medieval Theatre, Elizabethan Theatre and Kitchen Sink Drama.
The aim of the scheme is to extract key features from each of these times periods that may help develop students’ own performance work further with a brief history of each of the time periods.
This bundle includes the scheme of work, PowerPoints (these are labelled but can be stretched out across lessons) and resources.
There should be timers on the first PowerPoint but these don’t seem to be working at the moment - I have left the slides in so that you could add in your own timers (or use an online alternative).
Creating a Production Scheme of Work
Creating a Production Scheme of Work
The ‘Creating a Production’ scheme of work has been designed as a team building scheme for students at the end of Year 9 who have started the GCSE course, however it could be easily adapted to Key Stage Three also.
The objective of the scheme is to give students ownership of creating a whole class performance to develop their skills in communication and teamwork, as well as introducing the different production roles in a theatre setting, giving useful preparation for the GCSE written exam. The students take responsibility for every aspect of the performance, including the directing. Each student in the class should have an acting role (except the directors, lighting technician and sound technician) and a production role - ensuring there is always a task to be completed in each lesson.
This bundle includes a simple scheme of work, production packs for each of the production roles and some worksheets needed throughout the scheme.
The scheme provided mentions the use of Grimm Tales. I have previously done this scheme with the Grimm Tales scripts by Carol Ann Duffy (two stories per class) or abridged Shakespeare scripts.
It is a great scheme to get a class working together and appreciating one another, as well as allowing the freedom to develop their own ideas in relation to a script.
