A taster lesson for Year 6 students on transition day to the secondary school but could be used with Year 7.
Conti’s MARSEARS approach is implemented. There is a strong emphasis on speaking, focusing on phonics, practising vocabulary and becoming confident through speaking activities and games. Higher level vocabulary from KS4 has been used to stretch and challenge pupils.
Objective & Starter. Focus on cognates

This CPD resource reviews two chapters from the "Making Every Lesson Count’ book- Explanation and Modelling
The main aim is to demonstrate how through expert explanation and effective modelling leads to great performance. It also looks at dispelling misconceptions and explores two approaches to modelling.
The CPD can be delivered in 45-60 minutes.
The CPD has a starter which pinpoints the importance of explanation and modelling.
The CPD was used for teachers in an international school setting, taking into consideration, bilingual and EAL learners, discussing BICS and CALPS.

The session is to be delivered in groups. The presenter should set up the room so that colleagues can work in groups of 4. Each Kagan structure should be shown explicitly (as if you would explain to a group of students)

The PPT explores the advantages of movement in the classroom and practical teaching suggestions which can be implemented or adapted.
A PowerPoint that was created for a 20 minute Teaching & Learning briefing. The resource looks at productivity levels when students stay seated and ideas that can be adapted in any classroom.
