A week of VIPERS related Guided Reading lessons to fill out a week looking into the song of The Greatest Showman’s A Million Dreams! My class (Year 4) loved this unit when we studied it so thought it would be nice to share with others. NOTE: you may need to access the scene from the film through a subscription series such as: Disney + for the comparison lesson. (YouTube doesn’t have the scene needed to compare)

8 weeks of morning starters including 5 fluency questions a Sats style Grammar question and 5 of the Year 3/4 spelling words for students to practice. 5 weeks of original coloured slides 3 weeks of Autumninal coloured slides Week 1 has 3 slides due to it usually being teacher training days. Lesson 3 includes an inference lesson whereby the children can watch the scene that they have read and can identify the similarities and differences between the book and the TV series.

These classroom hand signals are incredibly useful for your classroom to reduce time on questions when asking for tissues and the toilet…etc. I have used these for the past 2 years and have had considerable benefits without disrupting lessons. Children will copy the signal and you can nod or shake your head whilst teaching.
