Shakespearean Insults
A great list of insults to create a starter for introducing students to the language of Shakespeare. I get students to share them with each other and deliver them with gusto the ask them to create some of their own to have the own ‘battle of wits’.
Planning sheet
This generic planning sheet offers an organised format for students to work on planning responses to any given question. In particular for extended written work.
Interesting sentences
A simple exercise that I use as a link between our fiction and non fiction creative writing work . I used it to help students pick apart how they make language choices when crafting their sentences. The step by step approach allows higher ability to excel and supports those who may struggle with such activities. I use it when we transition from Gothic fiction to non fiction Jack the Ripper.
English Revision
This pack uses extracts from Of Mice and Men to explore language skills in addition to non fiction writing activities. It is fully editable and offers activities for both Reading and Writing and is ideal for mid term assessments, class work and for KS3 working towards GCSE as well as KS4 and KS5 resit students.
The history of the News
How did people in the past find out about what was going on in the world? A look at broadsides and hawkers. The origins of the Ballard form . Great for history and English.
Of Mice and Men
A whole unit of work for this popular text. Includes a power point on constructing effective paragraphs. As a bonus a lesson on Simon Armitages poem the Hitcher.
