This resource includes 3 PowerPoint slideshows containing a total of over 50 slides of illustrations and discussion boxes.
I originally created these slideshows for my author sessions in local primary schools using my book, Alfred the Great Positive Thinker. But I realised that they could easily be used by other folk to read the book to their own class. It’s available from Amazon for £9.99.
The main theme is the promotion of positive thinking skills and the importance of a positive mental attitude. But there are other issues for children to discuss also.
I’ve split the book into three separate sessions:
• Lesson 1: pp1-26, reading time approx 18 minutes plus 3 discussion boxes approx 5 mins each
• Lesson 2: pp27-48, reading time 15 minutes plus 3 discussions 5 mins each
• Lesson 3: pp49-83, reading time 24 minutes plus 3 discussions 5 mins each
Read the story to your whole class, using your IWB to display the slideshow. Stop at each discussion box and introduce the issue. Give talk partners no more than about 2 mins to discuss each question. Then select pupils to share their responses with the class for a further 3 mins or so. Continue reading.
Despite the cover, it actually is a feel-good wintry tale!
