PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Condensation Polymerisation. Consistent with the Chemistry specification, this lesson focuses mainly on drawing and understanding esterification between single carboxylic acid and alcohol molecules, rather than polymer chains. However, it does extend to encompass formation of polyesters for high-end students.
The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, HIGHER TIER ONLY. Best taught after completing my lesson SC22a on “Alkenes and Homologous Series”, which provides an intro to the structures of carboxylic acids and alcohols.
**For one of the final summary tasks, you will need to get hold of Pearson Edexcel worksheet SC24c.2 “Monomers and Polymers”. Failing this, you could use slides 10 & 11 to prepare your own card sort which would substitute for the worksheet. Students’ progress can also be assessed simply using the yellow and pink box tasks on slide 9.

These PowerPoints and worksheets will allow you to teach HIGHER TIER ONLY GCSE Chemistry content on Moles.
This lesson introduces the concept of a mole in terms of Avogadro’s number, exemplifies how to calculate the number of moles from mass of a substance and vice versa, and shows how to use moles to calculate numbers of particles of a substance
**There are two versions of this lesson and worksheet provided. One is aimed at Triple Science students only, as it includes coverage of concentrations in mol dm-3, which is something that Combined Science students do not need to learn **
Other lessons on Calculations involving Mass (including subsequent lessons on using moles) are available from my shop. They can be purchased individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.
This PowerPoint plus practical method sheet will allow you to teach a broad range of abilities how to determine the empirical formula of magnesium oxide from practical data they have collected.
The resource meets the required specification points for the Edexcel 9-1 GCSE Chemistry course. It is accessible for students, easy to follow for teachers and is appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
This is best taught following my lesson on “Formula Mass and Empirical Formulae”. Other lessons on Calculations involving Mass (including the preceding theory lesson) are available from my shop. They can be purchased individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.
This bundle meets all specification points needed to teach Topic 25 “Qualitative Analysis: Tests for Ions” and Topic 26 “Bulk and Surface Properties of Matter, and Nanoparticles” from the Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Separate Science Chemistry course. These topics are for Triple Science classes only, they are not needed for Combined Science students.
The bundle includes five full lesson PowerPoints (one of these can be used to deliver two lessons) and associated resources, plus my overview and equipment lists for all Year 10 and Year 11 Combined & Triple Science.
I have many other GCSE lessons and bundles available so please check out my shop, OnSpecScience.
