Hi everyone.
A teacher for 19 years.
I have a lot of experience as a literacy co-coordinator and have developed resources in this area in the past which i am hoping to share with you
More recently I have become a member of the SLT so am now branching out into several new areas such as EAL, Pupil Premium, monitoring etc so hope to share any resources that i make on this current journey in the hope of saving others time when they are looking for something similar for their own practice.

This is a fully comprehensive 4 week English unit of work based on the book 'Stig of the Dump.' It ties in nicely with a 'stone age' topic. The focus is on diary writing and adventure stories. Both genres are clearly indicated and planning structured in such a way that clearly shows and supports progression.
It covers reading, writing and speaking and listening POS from the new national curriculum (2016) - these links are shown in the medium term planning and weekly plans
The planning is detailed and has learning objectives (linked to national curriculum), introductions (with materials to support), differentiated activities (with materials to support) and AFL/ plenary sessions. It also indicates where/ how activities could be done with suggestions on how to mark/assess and provides opportunities for self and peer assessment.
This planning took around 20 hours to complete - so I really want to put that time to good use and be able to share this resource (and save you some time)
When I planned this unit of work I used some display resources from Twinkl to accompany it and put up in the classroom which worked really well. I can not share these publically but you can access them yourself on the Twinkl website. Resources include display paper/ borders, guided reading resources and pictures of the characters.
If you have any suggestions on ways to improve it, please let me know and I can add this to the resource.
I couldn't find a text on line which provided the example of what I was looking for in a model persuasive letter. So I wrote one (and wish that i had done earlier as it was quicker)
This is a letter to the head teacher which tries to persuade them to get rid of school uniform.
It can be used as a model text to look at with the children to identify features and language.
It could be used a starting letter to be up-leveled and improved
We used it as the 'Imitate' text at the beginning of a T4W cycle
Hope you find it useful and it saves you some time.
After sitting down with my year 6 team to use the interim assessment framework to assess the children's writing, we discovered 2 things.
1) It was going to be a lot of work
2) Some of the statements were a little vague and we had to keep referencing the national curriculum to check - which took more time
So, I made this 'crib' sheet, which hopefully makes the writing statements a little clearer and all on 1 sheet (per level) so staff do not have to keep looking forwards and backwards between 2 documents.
hopefully you will find it useful too!
A simple table to record behaviour incidents for your class/ school
We used it to track behaviour in our phases for the children that were sent to us (SLT) and the BeCo would review it weekly to find patterns and deal with any recurrent problems
A fresh one would be used every half term
This is some planning i put together to compliment the DFE's SEAL strategy guidance and resources which is now archived content.
This unit is for the 'new beginnings unit and includes all the DFE resources
This is a for and against argument list for the wearing of school uniform. We were doing this as part of our T4W unit on persuasive writing. (You can also access a persuasive letter example for free in my resources)
I asked the children in my class to list the pros and cons in relation to school uniform to support their persuasive letter.
I got this ready to supplement any ideas they may have missed
This is intended to be used by Senior Leaders.
I used this form to track professional development and support given to staff across the year. It is a good way to condense all the info from learning walks/ book scrutinise and any other monitoring and see it altogether on 1 form.
This template is for Senior leaders
It is a simple excel document which you can use to track teaching over time (using inadequate/ requires improvement/ good/ outstanding - or adapt with own words).
I used it to amalgamate judgements over all areas to get a broad idea of where a teacher was overall and then to track progress.
These target cards are designed for use along side the NASSEA step system (1-7)
Each target card covers a range of English areas (speaking, listening and understanding, reading and writing)
The idea is that, after initial assessment to find out which step the child is currently on, they can be given the next step up to aim for. It guides the child, staff and parents in knowing what they next need to do in order to progress.
This bundle features weekly spellings for children to learn from reception to year 5.
The spellings are based on letters and sounds and support for spellings.
Reception = 6 weeks
Year 1 = 20 weeks
Year 2 = 22 weeks
Year 3 = 30 weeks
Year 4 = 35 weeks
Year 5 = 13 weeks
The sheets are editable and some have space to add words you may be focusing on for that week.
The sheets have space for the children to practise the spellings daily.
Each set also includes a master template.
These spellings can also be be purchased separately from my shop.
This is intended for classroom teachers
It has 4 resources that together make up a guided reading record for your groups
A guided reading folder cover sheet
A list of groups/ children in the groups
A list of books read
A comments/ assessments page
I kept a flexible plastic folder with these in for each group. Each week I would choose the book/ text for each group and set the LO/ activity for each group. Then they were ready to go for the week.
I hope you find them useful
intended for use by years 3/4/5 depending on ability
30 weeks worth of spellings based on letters and sounds/ support for spellings
1 blank week;y spelling template
Intended for years 4/5/6 depending on ability
13 weeks worth of spellings based on letters and sounds/ support for spellings
1 blank weekly spelling template
29 days worth of morning maths questions (10 each day)
A selection of arithmetic questions comprising of all 4 number operations which I used to do with my class every morning. I used them to warm up before a maths lesson and as an AFL opportunity
They were originally done for a year 4 class, but with the change in the national curriculum would now be more suitable for year 3 or higher ability year 2
I used these in Summer term 1.
They could also be used as mini tests, 'i'm finished' activities or homework
A piece of writing which describes a beast coming to devour children in school. It uses several types of figurative language and can be used to show children how to incorporate these into their writing.
