A level KS5 Biology AQA This engaging and informative complete lesson covers all content from AQA specification 3.8.4.2 “Differences in DNA between individuals of the same species can be exploited for identification and diagnosis of heritable conditions”. Using a detailed and engaging PowerPoint the students work their way through the content with a range of whole class quizzes, paired and individual activities. The lesson is well structured and uses real life examples of genetic diseases to enhance the learning of the students. Learning starts with DNA probes, moves on to genetic screening and personalised medicine, finishing on genetic counselling. Worksheets are included as PDFs for students to complete (all answers are present on the PowerPoint) with a variety of activities such as labelling diagrams and answering exam style questions. Photosynthesis complete lesson Lesson 2 of 3 teaches AQA specification 4.4.1.1 Photosynthetic reaction 4.4.1.3 Uses of glucose from photosynthesis. Complete lesson teaches the uses of glucose in plants with fun tasks and links to prior learning from Unit 4.2.2.1 Food Tests. 22 slide PowerPoint Worksheet A brief summary of the lesson content: Recap eukaryote cell structure. Using a range of engaging activities students discover the 5 uses of glucose, learning keywords along the way, different style of activity for each use. Food tests (Required practical 4) are recapped in fun ‘say what you see’ & ‘find the word’ speed rounds - completely linked to the learning objectives. Exam question practise questions finish this lesson (with extension question for higher tier students) this builds on the previous exam technique advice in lesson 1 and allows both students to self assess and you to monitor progress. Designed for teachers to deliver (specialist and non-specialists) but I have found more & more students need to access resources independently so my lessons are structured in a way that students can navigate for remote learning or to catch up on missed content. Can also be used for a flipped learning approach. This is a complete lesson (second in series of 5) following AQA A Level Biology specification section “3.8.4 Gene technologies allow the study and alteration of gene function allowing a better understanding of organism function and the design of new industrial and medical processes”.
