Triple Brackets - Extension questions

(0)
This collection of five worksheets ( complete with answers and working out ) covers the basics of multiplying out triple brackets then moves on to using the results in different situations. Students are eased into the topic with a little revision of the multiplying out that they will already have mastered then there is plenty of practise with progressively harder examples of multiplying out triple brackets including those with repeated factors. The extension sheets include proofs and finding the difference between two expressions ( a challenge in itself to remember to do x³ +3 x² + 3x + 1 )- ( x³ - 3x² + x - 1 ) carefully ! ). Geometric problems involving cube diagrams to illustrate the expansion of ( a + b )³ will provide useful extension work for the brightest GCSE students. Evaluate 1.1³ to show how powers of numbers can be found using expansions. The sheets could be used independently by your brightest y9s and above as they include instructions. Fraction Grids
SkillsheetsSkillsheets

Fraction Grids

(1)
This collection of 10 worksheets will help students to visualise fractions better by shading diagrams to represent particular fractions. There is progression from the simple pages where the boxes can be shaded by just counting 3 out of 4 boxes for example to those where the student has to see how to split a 4x5 grid into tenths in order to shade 7/10. There are worksheets that require fractions to be identified then cancelled or for a diagram to be interpreted in two different ways e.g. 10/15 = 2/3. One page considers the shaded AND unshaded parts of a grid that must always make up the whole. The last page illustrates how fractions can be compared in size by converting them to have a common denominator. DfE reference for GCSE 9-1 R3, N1 Please review this resource. Puzzles about the MEAN
SkillsheetsSkillsheets

Puzzles about the MEAN

(2)
Three pairs of worksheets with answers that are designed to help students understand the use of the mean as an average when data is added or removed from the calculation. e.g. the mean weight of 5 people is 70 kg. Another person joins the group and the mean is now 71kg. How much did the sixth person weigh. A lot of students find it hard to see that if you know the mean of a set of numbers and how many numbers there are then you can find the TOTAL of all the numbers. These questions will make them think about how they can use this idea. GCSE DfE references S4, N2 For more resources like this please visit the SKILLSHEETS Shop

This resource consists of a power point lesson that can be used to teach or revise the use of Pythagoras’s Theorem and 11 worksheets for consolidation or revision. The theorem is used first in right-angled triangles then in isosceles triangles and for finding the length of the diagonals of rectangles. The worksheets provide a framework for calculating the distance between two points given as co-ordinates, there are grids to help students visualise the method. Other topics covered include areas and perimeters and also the properties of triangles and a triangular prism so that Pythagoras can be applied to solving more complicated problems. Bearings and Map Scales

(6)
These 9 worksheets provide an introduction to measuring and drawing three figure bearings beginning by looking at the 8 points of the compass. The practical uses of bearings in the real world are emphasised by requiring students to work through word problems with varying levels of support. There is a lot of opportunity for practising measuring and drawing angles up to 360°. Revise angle vocabulary and apply basic angle facts. As an additional feature sone of the examples also require diagrams to be measured so the map scale can be used to find the actual real life distance. Percentages Multpliers

(0)
Three worksheets that explain how to calculate percentages of amounts by using multipliers e.g. 23% of £540 = 0.23 x 540. Two of the worksheets have duplicates using slightly different numbers so there are 5 pages in total including the answers. The questions ask students to use different methods to calculate percentages and check the answers are the same and to think about WHY the method works by showing that dividing by 2 is the same as multiplying by ½. This topic usually skips by so quickly at school that many students miss it and are left perplexed when they are expected to understand how to do reverse percentage calculations. The next resource in the series is 'Percentages using Multipliers - Increasing and Decreasing '. DfE reference for GCSE 2017 R9 For more resources like this please visit the SKILLSHEETS Shop
