This is an introduction lesson into Methods in Contexts, exploring the different contexts that can be studied in a MiC question. Classrooms, parents, teachers, parents and students. This lesson involves a group activity whereby students are split up and each group works on one context and then present their conclusions to the rest of the class. Each group has an information sheet with questions they need to consider when presenting.

Please leave a review if you try out this resource! *Lesson follows new AQA guidance on AS and A Level Sociology 2022 * Just a quick lesson recapping on globalisation and education. Do now: recapping on education, MiC, families and any random topic of the AS course (following AQA specification) Starter: odd one out. Students need to identify the concept which is the odd one out and justify it with a link between the remaining 3 concepts Think pair share: Students try to recap on globalisation and make links to social policies. Handout: Class reading through the handout. Aspects highlighted in bold and purple - key bits for students to focus on and use for their homework! Planning: Students then plan how they would answer a 10 mark question on their MWB AO’s: Reminder to students and discussion on how they can identify the AO’s in a piece of work Example paragraph: Students are presented with an example paragraph and need to highlight the AO’s and annotate WWW and EBI which would help them to improve/write the second paragraph Homework: Students are to create revision material based on the handout they’ve read over previously and answer a 20 mark exam question for homework.

Attached is a completed research method lesson focussing on PET and exam questions in the education portion of Paper 1. Lesson based on the Sociology book by David Brown, Hodder Education - AQA approved. The lesson is as following: Starts with a Do Now whereby students recap on qualitative data, quantitative data, primary data and secondary data MWB activity - recap on some key terms within research method Second MWB activity - primary or secondary research method? Images will be presented whereby students have to identify whether they are primary or secondary sources or data PET analysis - quick recap on what it stands for and example. Applying PET - example study for students to identify the practical, ethical and theoretical issues (example study is made up just to illustrate the point that all factors must be considered by the researcher) Applying PET - handout with strengths and limitations of questionnaires, interviews and observations. Students need to identify the PET strengths and limitations by highlighting them in coordination. Answer RM exam questions on both 2019 and 2020 education portion.
