Developed and used successfully with a Y8 class once I had built up a good relationship with them. Adapt and modify to suit your classes. There's enough in here for much older students - possibly up to Y11 but I wouldn't go much younger than that - however you know your classes. The "Relationships LESSON PRESENTATION" gives the kind of structure for everything. The titles do give away what you will get in the bundle. I'm not going to describe everything else as once you open them they are all obvious how you can use them.

Simple PowerPoint (with 50 slides) asking whether numbers are divisible by three or not. Each time annimation then says "Yes" or "No". Use it after teaching it as a plenary or as a discussion as a starter. Pupils can write their answers (and then show the correction) on individual pupil whiteboards - either on own, in pairs or in tables of four. Pupils can use red, green, yellow (for don't know) cards to show their answer. For extra fun you can have them point "Usain Bolt Style" to the left or right of the room for their answer. For complete chaos you can have them run to the left of the right of the classroom for yes or no. The important thing is to get pupils to explain their answers to help everyone's understanding. You can quite easily and quickly add many more questions by simply duplicating a yes or no slide and adding in your changes. I would usually back this exercise up with a worksheet or textbook exercise which they can do independently afterwards. You can extend this by getting the pupils to make up their own slides (on their whiteboards) to test other pupils.

Two KS3 examination questions on finding unknown angles on triangle diagrams. One is L5 one is L6 (Old NC Levels). You can use these in a variety of ways.... as a starter to test after last lesson or as a plenary as an assessment of progress that lesson. You can see that there are versions to print on A3 as I often start with a collaborative exercise where all four students work around one large sheet and then discuss the best solutions. Recently I have been giving tasks like these on A4 squared paper and then they all do their solution in silence. we then scan in the solutions and choose some students to come and talk through their working on the IWB. If I do a group activity I like to back it up into the exercise books so usually give it to them on A5 or A6 to reproduce themselves on their own. This can be the next lesson after the class exercise.

A list of points to reinforce with your students to improve the presentation in their Mathematics exercise books. If students know what working is needed and why it is important to show it in their exercise books, they are more willing to show the necessary working. If students know what the expectations are in terms of presentation, layout and attention to detail, they are more likely to take a pride in their exercise books. This is a series of templates for using to promote pace in lessons when students are working independently (or perhaps in pairs). Most exam questions are roughly 1 mark per minute so students need to increase their pace if they are to complete their papers. The idea is that you give them a set amount of time to do each question and then through out you give them reminders of the time elapsed. The template encourages them to work against the clock to complete the questions and so up their pace. If you see the MS Publisher file for the example which is four questions to be completed in eight minutes. The MS PowerPoint contains SEVEN templates which you can print out and use. Simply hand write the questions around the clock face and then write on the number of minutes for each one. There are two pages of usage notes included on the PowerPoint to help you implement the resource in your lessons. It's a great idea which I saw on TES resources (MrsMorgan1) and so thank you to her for sharing. I've adapted it for my learners. This has been really useful this - especially with a class who have a lot of students arriving late. I decide on my starter activity and take a "Snip" of it using the Windows Snipping Tool and then copy and paste the "Capture" onto this PowerPoint. Then as the students arrive give them them a copy of the starter as you greet them and have this PowerPoint showing on the presentation screen as a reminder. Once you've used a few times the students soon learn and follow the routine. Make the task long enough that no one finishes before the last person arrives and make sure it easy enough that they can all make a start on it. This is a really good resource of over 40 challenging questions which will get your students thinking and discussing their answers and methods. When you are being observed (well anytime really but...) you need to be going around the groups challenging them on their thinking. Obviously there is only one of you so it's good if you can give them the prompts for their discussions. These resources will help this. I have been told many times that a lesson plan should contain detail of the key questions which you are going to ask during the lesson. Some of these questions were put on my last observed lesson plan and it showed that I had thought about what I was trying to achieve from the students. The original file I created was the Publisher file which has five key questions which I printed on A4 and gave one copy to each table of four. One student then challenges questions to the other three. You can move this role around the table. This work quite successfully but it relies on a certain amount of routine from the students so it does require you training them. Recently I've collected a load of questions to add into the list. I've tried to be comprehensive to cover many different circumstances. There are a few similar to each other but I've added much to each one to try to develop the understanding. They are presented in a table format so it would be easy for you to pick out the questions you most want to ask and amend them if needed. Alternatively you could print out & cut up the cards and then simply pick out the ones you want. I have also now just picked out the eight questions myself from the list of 41 and put on A4 ready for printing onto card. These are probably the ones I would use. I would give each table a set of eight questions and each student would have to pick two cards which they would then either challenge themselves on or use to challenge the others. It's always worth setting your expectations of what the students should have. Obviously you could tweak these for your own learners but at least you've got a starting point here. It's a list of Essential maths equipment as a poster and then a check list (which doesn't quite match but would be easily amended to use with your form class. The laminates have been placed on one of the notice boards and next to are poly pockets attached. Huge bundle of resources on Ratio. The key resource here is the "Runaround Game" where you mark out ten sections of the classroom floor and then place ten different ratios in the ten sections.
