A resource pack including the topics referred to in the June 2019 IAL Unit 5 Scientific article: Dissecting the Power of Venom. This resource pack contains potential questions and answers taken from past papers in relation to the topics identified. It also includes some specific questions related to the article that can be used to get the students thinking. These can be used for students to practice such questions again as well as to help revise and review the topics highlighted. I have included 3 student task sheets, which could be used for classroom preparation for the article. The pack also includes a glossary (which relates to the student task) of words and phrases which may need clarifying for students - this is especially important for MLL/ESL students.

This resource applies to both the old CIE syllabus and the new one introduced for 2019. The resources include 5 lessons which cover ‘Characteristics and classification of living organisms’ 1.1 - 1.4 on the new syllabus. Each lesson pack includes a PowerPoint which in turn includes a variety of resources to teach the lesson including lesson objectives/outcomes thus allowing the lesson to be differentiated, tasks, activities, animations, video links, gifs and more. The resources shared are sufficient to teach this unit in its entirety.

This power point is in-line with the new Edexcel 2018 IAL Biology Syllabus and tackles syllabus points 4.16, 4.17, 4.18. The presentation covers the heterozygosity index and the index of biodiversity - both of which are new to the AS syllabus. The students have access to Lesson Objectives, Lesson outcomes, key words as well information about the content. The presentation also includes an activity students can take part in as part of the lesson. The activity is designed to take about 30 minutes and is based on an idea I found online to help students tackle these equations.
