Combining Like Terms Rummy

(0)
This card game is played like regular Rummy except instead of using the normal suits (diamond, spade, heart, clubs), the suits are x, x squared, y, y squared, and xy. Matches are only allowed with like terms so that instead of a normal Rummy play of a 2,3,4 of hearts, students must play 2x, 3x, and 4x for example. Cards are color coded to aid students who are struggling. This is a great way to keep the class engaged with a fun activity while still reinforcing an important Algebraic concept. Wonderful game to play as a reward when students have finished their end-of-year testing. Works best in small groups. Can be used for review, remediation, or just to put a little variety in the classroom. In order to tally scores at the end of each hand, students will also practice their basic math computation skills. Sure to add some excitement and competition to your day! Enjoy!
