Friday's questions. There are two problems for KS1 and two for KS2. In KS1 problem children solve number problems. Encourage students to use a bar model or other diagram for Q2. At KS2 children have a number problem to solve (bar modelling would be good here) and also a problem involving area and perimeter of a square and rectangle. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Tweet us @WRMathsHub a picture of your children's answers for a chance to win a prize.

Hope you enjoy today's problems. In KS1 children have to work out the cost of a cheesecake given some information. They then have to work out whether 62 people can fit into some cars and buses. At KS2 children need to work out the change for a £20 note and then solve a problem to find what the value of tow cards is. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Tweet us @WRMathsHub a picture of your children's answers for a chance to win a prize.

Today's problems are here. There are two problems for KS1 and three for KS2. In KS1 children have to work out the total number of oranges and also understand the relationship between repeated addition and multiplication. At KS2 children have three quick number problems they have to solve. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Today's problems are all based around the four rules and some fractions work. There are two problems for KS1 and two for KS2. In KS1 problem children have to work out a possible question that could be asked given the information. They then have to use times tables knowledge to work out the cost of some expensive ribbon. At KS2 children have to solve problems involving offers on chocolates and then work out how much profit is made from selling oranges. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Not long to go now to benefit from this. There are two problems for KS1 and three for KS2. In KS1 children have to work out what prizes can be claimed for a certain number of tokens. They then have to use reasoning to work out the value of a particular object. At KS2 children solve problems using fractions and percentages. Q3 requires a little more thought and children may benefit from using a bar model or other diagram to help them solve it. Every day in the run up to the GCSE exams we are intending to put up two GCSE problems of the day on Twitter. Here are the files you can use in the classroom. For each problem there are some variations that you might want to use instead or in addition. The first problem is suitable for foundation and higher and the second is suitable for higher. The first problem involves reasoning to find the base and height of a triangle and use this to find the area. The additional problems involve fractions and Pythagoras. The second problem involves students finding the perimeter of a sector given its arc length. Alternative versions require students to find the length in exact form and find the area of sector. These problems will give students practice is rearranging formulae. We hope you enjoy using them. Please tweet your student solutions to @WRMathsHUb for a chance to win a prize.

Today's problems are ones that require children to think carefully about what they have to do. There are two problems for KS1 and two for KS2. In KS1 problem children have to use information about two plates of food to work out the cost of a fried egg. They then have to work out time problems. At KS2 children potentially need to use all four operations and the problems can be solved using bar modelling. The first one is similar to the train and football one from last week, except the picture doesn't make the approach as obvious. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Tweet us @WRMathsHub a picture of your children's answers for a chance to win a prize.

Here are two problems for KS1 and two for KS2. In KS1 children have to solve two number puzzles. The first one involves simple operations. The second problem involves fractions. Although the second problem seems quite simple it will tease out lots of misconceptions. At KS2 children have to reason and problem solve with two shape problems. The first one involves working out the length of a square given the area and the second problem requires a little bar modelling, algebra or trialand error. Every day in March the White Rose Maths Hub is aiming to put out a question of the day. Tweet us @WRMathsHub a picture of your children's answers for a chance to win a prize. Bar Modelling Worksheet - Part Whole Questions

(87)
This is the first in a series of worksheet sets on Bar Modelling from the White Rose Maths Hub. This first set contains 3 worksheets. The first introduces students to the bar model diagram and students have to find missing values. All of the questions involve addition and subtraction within 100. The worksheet encourages students to think about the number sentences that are represented by each diagram and also get students to recognise the importance of the proportionality of the different bars. The second worksheet using the bar model to solve word questions. The first few questions ask students to complete the diagrams and in later ones students then have drawn their own. The final worksheet is a series of more challenging questions that should make students think. Many of the problems are multi-step. For each questions students should use a bar model to solve. All sheets are addition and subtraction within 100. This worksheet can be used with students in primary and secondary to get them used to the bar model diagram. All the answers are supplied also. If you have any comments about the sheets please do not hesitate to get in touch with our Hub. It is only with your comments that we can improve what we do.
