Listening Walk: Outdoor Sound Activity

This is a fun and simple activity to introduce students to the world of sound, getting them to observe the world around them, thinking about the different sounds they can hear and where they’re coming from. Tell the students that they are going to go outside and see how many different things they can hear. Walk around your outdoor space, getting them to draw / write what they can hear on the sheet. Once they have finished, the older ones can complete the question sheet. For younger students you can simply ask these questions throughout the activity to stimulate thought. Types of Energy: Energy Detectives - Outdoor Activity

(0)
Energy is all around us, inside and out, as your class will find out with this fun and practical lesson. This activity is a great introduction or recap for your ‘forms of energy’ topic as students will go on a hunt to see how many different forms of energy they can spot. Teaching Structure: Get your students to run on the spot, do star jumps, push ups etc. (tire them out!). Explain that in order to do this they need energy, however energy can come in lots of different forms. There are lots of good videos on youtube that you can watch to help introduce this topic. Definitions sheet: Get the students to complete the definitions sheet (or use the pre-populated one) so they have a good understanding as to what the different forms of energy are. They can take this with them to help with the main activity. Record Sheet (differentiated): In pairs, get students to walk around (inside and out) for 15 – 20 minutes recording down the different forms of energy they can spot. Class discussion: Once the students have seen which kinds of energy they could spot, discuss their findings as a class or in small groups. This activity can be great in all sorts of weather! Don’t be afraid for them to waterproof up and head outside! Please don’t forget to rate this resource to let us know what you think. Using natural resources outside is a great way to engage your early counters. This outdoor math resource is designed to get students taking part in a fun and physical activity while becoming efficient counters in real world situations with number 1 1 - 20. They will use the visual task cards to collect a handful of a natural resource, count how many they’ve collected, and record it on the sheet. These cards can be laminated and written on with board makers so they can be used time and time again. This is a great activity for students to do either in pairs or individually. Extension: Once the students have collected and counted their natural objects, they can use these objects (and more if needed), to create the number on the floor. Christmas Treasure Map – Instruction Writing

(0)
This is a fun Christmas themed Literacy activity where your students will write treasure map instructions for their partner to find the Christmas present. This activity works great at the end of term where you can give a little gift to each child to put in the present they hide and write instructions for. Teaching Structure: Give each child (or get them to make) a small box for them to decorate and put either a small note with a Christmas message or a gift you’ve provided inside. Explain that they’re going to hide the present outside and then write a set of instructions for their partner to follow, find, and unwrap. At this point it’s good to give an example of some instructions giving simple directions, demonstrating how clear and detailed they need to be. E.g. Walk forwards 10 steps. Turn right and walk to the big tree. Get the students to hide their present then come back to a designated starting point and begin to write their instructions. Once all of the instructions are finished, they can swap with their partner and try to find the gift. Extension: Get the student to draw a map to go along with their instructions. **Equipment needed: ** Activity pack Small box (or card for the students to make their own). Before the lesson you’ll need to buy the correct amount of small eggs for your class (5 per child).
