This resource features a large clock face with line indications of where the clock numbers should be placed (but not in which order). The numbers to 12 are positioned below the clock face - ready to cut out (with dotted lines to guide cutting). There is one extension question - which involves cutting out the ‘hour’ and ‘minute’ hands (at the top of page 2) and placing these on the completed clock face to show ‘3 o’clock’. Learners match pictures and sounds (as puzzles) to complete images and make a simple words to read. Learners can then use these completed puzzles to fill out missing words in sentences (either separate sentences or all sentences on one sheet) to complete, then read whole (simple) sentences. All words on the ‘picture puzzles’ only use the sounds ‘m d g o c k’. Phase 2, set 1 (sounds s a t p i n) is also available (in same design) in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? Picture/word puzzles Pages 1 and 2 An adult cuts out the x10 puzzle shapes following dotted lines. The segments of all x10 ‘picture/word puzzles’ can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to match. Once the segments of each picture/word puzzle are completed each of the x9 words can be read. The completed ‘picture puzzles’ can be used as a reference to complete the missing words for x10 sentences (pages 3-5). Writing words/reading sentences Pages 3-6 There are two versions of the same x10 sentences to complete, each has a missing word with a clear space for each of the missing letters (graphemes) to be written. A larger format version of the sentences set out individually (pages 3 and 4) which can be cut up (perhaps laminated) and written on (if laminated - with a dry wipe/wipe clean pen). The smaller scale version (page 5) has the same x10 sentences but all on one page for learners to complete with a pencil, as a ‘worksheet’. What is it? This is a simple activity which can be used by pupils on their own (as an independent group activity) or as a game for up to 7 players. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource is to recognise/read and match words/vocabulary to 2D shape images to reinforce/develop further understanding of 2D shapes and their properties. Resource Details The seven 2D shapes investigated in this activity are a semi-circle, circle, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon and hexagon. Learners will need a pencil (to write their name on page 1), scissors and a glue stick to complete this activity. Page 1 features the Robot’s ‘control panel’ which has been enlarged from page 2 to provide a large size and clear space for learners to label the different properties of each shape. The dotted lines on page 1 indicate where learners should position the different labels. Learners do not cut out any part of page 1! Page 2 includes four sets of labels (there are exactly the correct amount of labels provided to complete each 2D shape featured. These labels are the names of the shapes, the number of sides each shape has, the number of vertices each shape has, whether the shapes have ‘curved’ sides (only two do - the circle and semi circle). The green ticks can be stuck next to these two shapes. All labels have dotted lines indicate where to cut. Page 3 includes the same 2D shapes on the robot’s control panel to cut out and hold (to investigate). It would be most helpful for learners to have access to a set of these while completing this activity especially for learners who do not know the information (to complete the labels). What’s included? This download includes nine A4, portrait pdf sheets which make a number matching set featuring x54 cards which includes all letters of the alphabet with an image to match. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource is to practise identifying the initial sounds for x26 images and matching these to the written letter/sound (grapheme). Both upper and lowercase letters are including - helping to reinforce both. How to use this resource This matching activity has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on a ring. Learners look at each picture card and (if they are able) say what it is. Learners then say the initial sound for each picture and match the ‘picture’ card to the alphabet ‘letter’ card which shows the same initial sound. Once the set is matched into pairs (picture and letter cards together) learners can then order the card pairs from the beginning to the end of the alphabet or in reverse which can be much trickier! Pictures included are apple, banana, car, dog (Dachshund!), egg, frog, grass, house, ink, jam, key, lemon, milk, nine numbers, orange, pink pig, quarter, robot, sun, tree, upside-down umbrella, van, wall (not to be confused with ‘bricks’ !) xylophone, yellow yoyo, zebra. This ‘Phase 2’ phonics picture and word matching set has been designed to be a simple activity to consolidate learning. This set focuses on ALL sounds in Phase 2 s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss. This activity is ideal for groups/individuals to be getting on with independently and/or for learners to revisit these sounds with an adult. This resource has been designed for Early Years children who are learning these sounds for the first time, pupils in Year 1 who need some practise/reinforcement of these sounds. This resource is also ideal for learners with additional learning needs. How to use it? Each learner matches the ‘word’ and 'picture’ cards as pairs. There are x4 colour sets included (indicated by the outer line colour of each box) to help keep cards in order. The red set includes words/pictures which only include sounds s, a, t, p, i, n. The orange set includes words/pictures which only include sounds s, a, t, p, i, n AND m, d, g, o, c, k. The yellow set only includes sounds s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k AND ck, e, b, r, u, h. What’s included? This download includes seven A4, portrait pdf sheets which make a number matching set featuring x40 cards (Various vehicles to count and numerals/word number names from 1 to 20 to match). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource is to practise counting up to 20 items (vehicles) and match the total number with the correct numeral/number name word label. How to use this resource This matching activity set has been designed to be an activity for an individual or group where the square (cards) are already cut up (and hole punched!), shuffled and displayed either loosely on a table top/carpet or already attached on the ring. Learners then look at each image card and count the number of vehicles before matching the picture to the numeral/number name card to complete the set. Once the set is matched into pairs learners can order the numeral and picture cards together to create a complete set from 1 to 20 or backwards depending on the focus. Once complete the cards can be threaded back together using the hole (top left of each card). The squares are designed to be joined together using a plastic clip/string or ribbon (using sticky Velcro would assist with easy opening). Once attached the numeral cards (like number fans) can be used in a variety of situations including on-the-carpet questioning with the whole class/smaller groups where pupils can show their answers instead of speaking. The cards could also be used as a reference resource for learners e.g. to help count and order numbers and/or cross-check the correct orientation of individual numbers if unsure when writing. Games This ‘number match’ set could also be used for a variety of games and to accompany and involve learners during counting rhymes and songs, usable both inside the classroom and outdoors (especially if laminated to improve durability in all types of weather!) Hide and seek match could make a fun game where one half of the set (e.g. all the vehicle cards or all the numeral cards) are missing and learners need to find them and match them up. Suggestion Brightly coloured plastic keyrings (which can be easily opened by unclipping the plastic) as seen on the main resource image are ideal for this resource and can be purchased online easily. Alternatively string or thin ribbon would work well. If a small amount of velcro was attached to both ends of string/ribbon with some strong glue this would help learners to be more independent using this resource. What’s included? This download includes x9 word searches (all portrait orientation, pdf) A4 sheets, featuring nine ‘Autumn themed’ word searches. Page 1 features the word search and the answers (included on page 2) clearly show where all words are hidden. Answers are displayed in the same layout (as page 1) to promote autonomy whilst providing easy comparison/quick reference. Autumn themed word searches included in this download are Autumn, September, Back to school, October, Harvest Festival, Halloween, November, Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day. Each of these word searches are also available separately in my TES shop. Who’s it for? These word searches have been designed for pupils the early years, in years one and two, as well as students needing additional learning support. Resource layout The word search letters are arranged in a x10 by x10 square grid and featuring easy to read size 25 ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ font. The November word search is x13 squares up/down x14 squares across and the ‘Harvest Festival’ word search is x10 squares up/down and x12 squares across. The hidden words have been organised into four groups of four, clearly showing all hidden question words below the word search. There are up to 22 words to find per worksheets. Words are hidden horizontally (forwards and backwards) and vertically (up as well as down) and diagonally (forwards and backwards). Recommendations I recommend that learners use a ‘highlighter’ style pen when finding the hidden words as highlighters enable all letters to remain visible once each word has been identified. Some letters have been used more than once (for different words) so all letters need to remain visible (if words are instead ‘crossed out’ this makes the letters harder to read and identify). What’s included? This download includes x22 pdfs, portrait in colour each featuring ten/five images that all begin with one sound for learners to match - the grapheme and the image with that initial sound. What’s it for? This resource is to enable learners to practise identifying the first (initial) sound (phoneme) of objects (images) and match these with the correct, matching letter (grapheme). Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support, revisiting any/all of these sounds. How to use it? An adult prints each sheet out (ideally onto card) and cuts along the dotted lines, including to separate the ‘letters’ from the ‘images’ (instructions are included on each sheet itself). These pieces (images and letters) can then be placed on a table top for learners to match - the image with the matching/correct initial letter sound as a two part mini jigsaw puzzle. Each letter only fits the images which have the same initial letter. Resource Details The images chosen all have a clear initial letter sound at the beginning but are not words which can easily be sounded out. The focus of this activity is purely to identify the initial letter sound for these images - the cross (top right of each image) indicates that these images are not to be sounded out. Letters of the alphabet together are grouped together as listed below - Red Set - letters a, e, i, o, u (letters e and o / i and u are together, x5 images each) Orange Set - letters b, d, g, p, q Yellow Set - letters c, f, k, s, t Green Set - letters h, l, m, n, r Blue Set - letters j, v, w, x, y, z (letters v and y / x and z are together, x5 images each) The font used is ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 120, so a large, ‘easy to read’ size. What’s included? This download includes five A4, portrait pdf sheets to investigate ‘2D shapes and their properties’, presented as a ‘workbook’ for learners to complete through investigation. A sixth sheet has also been included as a set of tangible 2D shapes for learners to hold and investigate while completing this investigation. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children (to complete with support/as a group), pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The six 2D shapes investigated in this workbook are a circle, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon and hexagon. Page 1 is the ‘workbook’ cover and includes a clear space for learners to write their name. There is related 2D shape information included on the cover for learners to read as well as a visual list of what learners will need to complete the workbook - to encourage autonomy. Pages 2 and 3 include six sets of questions (one set for each shape) all in the same layout. Learners are to complete this information so that the information becomes a set of clear, (accurate!) facts about each shape. Where learners do not know the information (to complete these questions) they can investigate each shape using the clear picture provided and count e.g. the number of sides of each shape and ‘circle’ the corners/vertices to complete the information. Additionally I have included a set of these 2D shapes to print out (onto card) and hold and use during this investigation. To complete these pages there are ‘2D shape names’ to cut out on page 4 (along the right hand side) which learners should be made aware of (dotted lines indicate where to cut). An adult could pre-cut these x6 shape names for those learners who struggle with using scissors/find cutting frustrating/demotivating. Pages 4 and 5 include the same information (as pages 1 and 2) completed in the same layout for learners to check their findings. Resource Details The 2D shapes focused on in this game are investigated in this activity are semi-circle, circle, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon and hexagon. Learners will need a pencil, scissors and a glue stick to play this game. Page 1 includes the game instructions. These are: How to play Each player choose a game board (left or right) page 2 Names can be written above each board Take turns to shake the die When a player rolls a number for a shape that they need to collect they ‘stick’ this shape onto their robot’s ‘control panel’ (right side, page 2). Follow the instructions below… If roll 1 - stick down and tick circle (circle has one curved side) If roll 2 - stick down and tick semi circle (a semi circle has two sides, one straight AND one curved) If roll 3 - stick down and tick triangle (a triangle has three sides AND three corners / ‘vertices’) If roll 4 - stick down and tick square (a square has four equal sides AND four corners / ‘vertices’) If roll 5 - stick down and tick pentagon (a pentagon has five sides AND five corners / ‘vertices’) If roll 6 - stick down and tick hexagon (a hexagon has six sides AND six corners / ‘vertices’) …once the shape is stuck down AND ticked that player can have ANOTHER turn! What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters using an alphabet strip (showing capital letters) and carrots (for lowercase letters). Two pages include instructions on how to make a rabbit face into a ‘posting box’ with clear photos supporting each step. An empty tissue box is needed to make this resource. Dotted guide lines show where to cut. There are also two ‘slits’ which need making and a hole to be cut (inside the rabbits mouth) - these may be best made using a craft knife (used well away from little people!) This resource is designed for an adult to make ‘for’ learners to use. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed to be used by early years children and pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to practise recognising and matching upper and lowercase alphabet letters and to become more familiar with the ‘alphabetical order’ of all alphabet letters. Resource Details The photo shows how this resource looks which complete. The idea is that learners move the capital letter alphabet strip left/right to show a different capital letter. They then ‘post’ the matching lowercase alphabet letter (carrot!) into the rabbit’s mouth. This is an ideal activity to keep learners busy and independent. I have included two versions of the letter ‘k’ as some learners may be more used to the look of one style than the other. There is also a ‘blank’ carrot included in case one gets lost.
