AQA New GCSE Cold Environments work booklet
This booklet covers the entire sub-unit of Cold Environments for the new AQA Geography GCSE. It was created to help save some time and get through the content quickly. It is split into 5 lessons that cover all of the content from the specification:
1. Characteristics of Cold Environments
2. Plant and Animal Adaptations in Cold Environments
3. Opportunities and Challenges in Svalbard
4. Cold Environments Under Threat
5. Managing Cold Environments
There is an accompanying PowerPoint with extra challenge tasks, links to video clips and answers to many of the tasks. Should take no more than 5 hours to cover this section as large amounts of information have been supplied to reduce wasted time taking notes in class. Practice examination questions have been included throughout. No need for any other materials to deliver this sub-unit.

Classifying types of Crime
A KS3 Geography lesson on different types of crime that was part of a Geography of Crime SOW. The lesson was taught to a mixed ability year 8 class but could be taught across all years in KS3. The lesson was observed by colleagues with a focus on methods of differentiation and so the lesson contains activities that stretch the most able and scaffolding that supports lower ability students. Fifth lesson in The Living World section of the NEW AQA GCSE Geography course. The lesson covers animal and plant adaptations in the rainforest. Video links, worksheets and examination practice included within the lesson. Fully resourced.
Coasts - hard and soft engineering.
A KS3 Geography lesson introducing coastal hard and soft engineering strategies. It was originally taught to a mixed ability year 8 class but could easily be adapted for GCSE. The lesson includes a carousel activity and a paired decision making activity. The carousel activity has been differentiated - the worksheets are colour coded to allow lower ability students to access the information easily. The decision making activity incorporates numeracy into the lesson as students are required to work within a budget. Fully resourced.
AQA GCSE Geography Cold Environments Takeaway Homework
Created as part of the AQA GCSE Geography Cold Environments Unit. A set of homework tasks in the style of a restaurant menu. Each course has a specific focus:
Appetiser - key words revision
Starter - recall 3 facts activity
Main - 9 mark question
Dessert - skills question (based on maps/ graphs/ photographs)
To finish - A research task to further expand their knowledge and understanding
Students have a choice of question and can be set a certain task/ combination of tasks depending on the focus of the homework e.g. practicing 9 mark questions. A popular homework with students and a versatile resource for teachers. Could also be used as an extension resource for more able students during lessons.
Sand Dune Species
A lesson on the endangered species found in a sand dune ecosystem - focusing on the Sefton Coast in North West England. Taught to a mixed ability year 8 class but could be used for any KS3 class. A variety of activities including a carousel activity. Differentiated worksheets, learning objectives and challenge tasks integrated into the PowerPoint Presentation. Fully resourced.
Avalanches
A Geography lesson introducing avalanches to a low ability year 9 class. Could also be used with year 7 and 8 classes. The lesson explores the characteristics, causes and impacts of avalanches. Video clips, senses board and worksheet are all included.
Tides and Ocean Currents
The fifth lesson in the Coastal Systems and Landscapes unit of the new AQA A Level Geography specification. This lesson covers tides and ocean currents. Students make notes on the accompanying A3 worksheet.
Economic and Social Measures of Development
Lesson 2 of The Changing Economic World section of the New AQA Geography GCSE. The lesson introduces a range of development indicators to students, with a focus on HDI and GNI. Students will identify the limitations of the development indicators and finish the lesson with peer assessed examination practice. Differentiation included through challenge tasks and fully resourced.

Truman: Right or Wrong?
A KS3 History lesson that was part of a World War Two SOW. Students investigate whether President Truman was right to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They look at a variety of sources of evidence including reconstruction videos, witness statements and photographic evidence. The task is completed in groups and and the final activity requires students to come to an overall decision - was Truman right or wrong? Fully resourced.
The Life of Ned Kelly
A KS3 History lesson on the life of Ned Kelly. Included as part of a significant individuals SOW. The lesson includes an enquiry task starter, a video clip and a card sort activity. The final activity is a decision making exercise on whether Ned Kelly deserved the death penalty. Fully resourced.
