Measuring Development GDP HDI Gini and Social Measures
Lessons introducing and developing the themes of development of nations and how we can compare them.
First lesson looks at GDP, GDP per capita and HDI - what they mean and what this tells us about the nations - all based around a key question. Visual starter game included.
Gini Coefficient homework - worksheet to read and questions to start the next lesson.
Second lesson is more notes based, reintroducing some key terms with the use of images to help develop learner's understanding. Scatter graph question - helping tick a numeracy box -great way to demonstrate learning. Exam style questions to finish the lesson off.

Profit and Loss with Profitability Ratios (3 LESSONS)
Lesson 1
Introduction to Costs, Revenues and Profit - two whole class activities to work through with answers looking at how to complete basic financial calculations and the ways businesses can boost their profit. Two slides on here printable as worksheets
Lesson 2
Introduction to Profit and Loss accounts, moving on from basic financial calculations. Putting together a Profit and Loss accounts using just the numbers in the first question and then more complicated activity where learners have to pick out key information from a case study. Also includes an exam style set of questions, with 9 mark evaluation question.
Lesson 3
Profit and Loss case study question, learners need to complete the basic financial calculations and put the information into a Profit and Loss account. Whole class activity / game putting together sales pitches then their Profit and Loss Accounts. Examples of how to calculate Gross and Net Profit Margins then activity to complete.
Worksheet 1 - matching key terms activity and then Profit and Loss Accounts / Profitability Ratios question.
Worksheet 2 - complete a Profit and Loss Account and then the ratios linked to it, some exam questions based on the case study.

Introduction to some countries that have a low GDP or are considered by learners to be 'poor' - why are they not as rich as us?
Four case studies for learners to research with reasons that have negatively impacted on their ability to develop. Two links to videos on Migration - one showing the the journey of an a girl from El Salvador and the other showing the reasons why UK subjects wanted to leave the UK - focusing on the impact of migration.
Exam question - drawing and interpreting a chart looking at the distribution of wealth in four different nations.
Management Style - Autocratic and Democratic
Single lesson looking at Autocratic and Democratic styles of management.
Starter activity questioning learners on Off-The-Job and On-The-Job training - testing prior learning.
Activity asking learners how they'd deal with three scenarios and how they think they'd get the best out of three disinterested employees.
Introduction of Autocratic theory - look at Steve Jobs - link to YouTube clip of film. How does he deal with an employee? How does this compare to what they'd expected?
Comparison to Richard Branson and Democratic management. Multiple choice questions - where learners must justify their response - all answers potentially correct. Return to three employees from the start of the lesson - how would an autocratic and democratic manager deal with them?

Looking at how we view different groups and where these feelings come from and whether there is any justification for this. Looking at the different types of cause for discrimination with several real life examples.
Links to videos on Srebrenica and Islamophobia in the UK videos to show how Prejudice develops given time to.

Is it ever okay to experiment on animals?
Looking at the scenarios where it's consider okay to experiment on animals and the reasons why this is the case.
Begin lesson looking at specific and seemingly harmless ways animals have been experimented on, are these okay? Have humans benefited ? Is that enough to justify it?
Look at the definitions of cloning and genetic engineering, with link to a Vice video. Look at specific human break through from animal experiments, do these justify experiments now? There is then a GCSE Religious Studies exam question.
Link to a video about cloning a mammoth, is this okay? Any different to animal experiment or cloning on live animals?
Stakeholder Conflict with Lesson Plan
Observation (internal) lesson with full detailed lesson plan included.
Looking at how and why stakeholders clash - based on the admittedly dated case study of Tesco and the horse meat scandal. Group work activity looking at the possible ways that Tesco may have caused different groups to clash.
Homework sheet included for learners to examine in detail how different groups could clash.
