Physics Extension work - BPhO Olympiad Challenge questions and solutions

Use these questions with your brightest and best year 12 students to occupy and stretch them from the very beginning of the A level physics course. The year 12 A level Physics Olympiad exams are in January and March every year. It’s tricky to start training students on challenging questions at the start of their A level studies as they haven’t covered much relevant content. The questions reproduced in this resource are suitable for the start of the A level physics course - the problem solving is tricky but builds on existing GCSE knowledge. Solutions are provided.

Updated 19 Feb with a new extra edition indicating the AQA 2022 exam topics This is a great revision lesson (and relaxing for the teacher). Each student in your class will answer around 100 differentiated questions with help and feedback covering the whole topic. The emphasis is on student independence. The differentiation should work well from GCSE foundation tier revision to A level recap. Students use this pdf file on iPads/ tablets/ phone/ laptops. Email the file to your class and use Adobe Acrobat Reader on “single page view” to optimise the view. I’d recommend asking students to submit notes they make on key points and record any rewards they receive for completing sections. You could track student progress from the reward pictures they get. I selected 18 questions from the past papers to use with my year 13 class. All the answers are carefully presented. The difficulty is graded for every question ★★★☆☆ The formatting enabled me to use the questions on our remote learning platform. I tried to choose questions with interesting examples. So not the salad spinner one. In the 2020 lockdown I developed four interactive ebooks to help teach and test material for the Engineering unit. These are strongly recommended. Moments of Inertia Flywheel Practical pV graphs for Engineering Engine Cycles and Calculations

Students can’t usually recognise constellations and planets above their heads. This is a shame as the night skies are beautiful. This marvelous interactive eBook will take them from absolute beginners to naked eye experts in about 40 minutes. Suitable from year seven to A level astrophysics students. Either in the classroom or remote at home, this is a fantastic lesson (and relaxing for the teacher) Students use the pdf eBook file on iPads/ tablets/ laptops. The emphasis is on student independence. The file contains 407 hyperlinked pages with 73 questions. Differentiated paths are automatically followed based on students answers. Track student progress by them reporting which end of chapter reward pictures they receive. Instructions to share with students and a teacher key to the rewards are included. Other eBooks; GCSE Radioactivity revision GCSE Energy revision GCSE Electricity revision A level Adding Resistors A level Young Modulus A level Moments of Inertia A level Pressure-Volume graphs bennyjohn5@hotmail.com
