OCR Gateway Science (Grade 9-1) Specification
Suitable for Year groups 9 - 11
This is a homework booklet I put together for the 5 lessons for combined students and 7 lessons for triple/separate biology students; mark schemes included.
I photocopied it as a booklet, it was handy for picking up and marking myself rather than taking up 20-30 exercise books. My students hole punched theirs and treasury tagged it in their exercise books (also hole punched). I did not mark all sections, we peer assessed some of it in lessons using green pen.

When students fill in the missing keywords in Part 1; they complete questions
Part 2 Questions from their textbook
Part 3 Complete past exam questions
Part 4 Complete a test (optional )
I use this 4 part revision strategy to get students to understand the importance of chunk revising and marking.
Revision poster on sustainability (suitable for GCSE, iGCSE or Junior Cycle Science)
This poster/chart covers key scientific concepts on:
sustainability defined
examples of sustainability issues in the news 2018 Gretta Thunberg -* Climate change*; 2020 *COVID-19 many scientists believe there is a link between habitat destruction and COVID-19 outbreak *

challenges of sustainability
life expectancy
fossil fuels
Exp. to investigate the products formed by the burning of fossil fules
greenhouse gases
production of biofuels

how society can contribute to sustainability
My students stick this revision poster/chart into their copy book at the start or end of the chapter content delivery. I use these revision posters to show students the importance of chunk revising. They spend time recalling/memorising the key-points; some students will create their own revision resource to suit their learning style by using this content eg. a mind-map, flash cards and some create their own audio recordings to help.
The template can be edited by you to change content or to add some challenge (e.g. sometimes before I photocopy this poster I will delete some of the keywords and get students to identify the missing keywords.)

This revision resource:
Assess students understanding on keywords in B4 and concepts
Forms the backbone of their revision
Student have always found these posters helpful and use them regularly when answering exam questions
stuents found the layouts of the cycles very helpful; to help them memorise the cycles students would work in pair or groups of four to draw the cycles on the desks with washable marker pens. I was also able to move between group and orally check their understanding. This is excellent for a student lead activity and teacher facilitating - great as a learning walk activity

B4 Competition and interdependence
There is a lot of biological concepts to cover in this lesson (my advice would be to do Task 3 (research task) in a separate lesson and finish that lesson with some past exam questions. The biggest mistake teachers make here is they fly through this section and students mis the understanding of key terms like bioaccumulation and the examboard loves to test students scientific knowledge on the concepts covered in this lesson
This lesson covers
the term competition - students can watch a short clip on intrasepecfic competition
terms - predation, mutualistic and parasitism relationships explained and questions to consolidate students learning
term bioaccumulation explained
independent research task
