A lesson including resources - I made for OCR entry level science - the cooking and cleaning module - although it can be adapted it looks at the effectiveness of washing powders- i intend a practical where they put prestained swatches of white cotton into beakers of warm water - stir it for a set amount of time and then rinse and dry the cloth - they mkae predictions about which brand of washing powder will be best and then see if they are correct - Data is a simple observation

Identifying disease symptoms - could you be a doctor?

(0)
a KS3 lesson where pupils play a guess who style game to identify each others symptoms and work out what disease they are suffering from. It then encourages pupils to think about what would happen if doctors made a misdiagnosis. it encourages pupils to think about different types of medical testing and allows for really good debate. This fits in well with the disease topic and worked brilliantly with my pupils.

AFELS planning for Science (burns and community)

(0)
Planning for pupils with severe learning disabilities based around the functional living skills criteria this would cover a block of 6 weeks, I have removed photos from the worksheet because I made them of relevant places the pupils visited and thought you would want to do the same for group 1 pupils I turn the same photos into cards they can point to. Also included are some assessment sheets that can be filled in every lesson for pupil tracking (format borrowed from another teacher but assessment critiera my own) and the scheme of work for a half term

A SOW that can be slotted into any curriculum and a blank student learning log that you can use for any STEM project, the objectives link to the CREST criteria as well so will help you decide if your students meet the criteria for a CREST award.

Planning Worksheet (2 levels) for Rockets experiment (editable)

(0)
A planning sheet I made for the film canister rocket experiment, which is a fun end of term activity, but this is an experiment planning sheet that can be edited and used for any experiment, I have made an easier and harder version. I intend to print it A3 and give it to the pupils, thereby making a ready made display.

An 8 week homework project for science, encompassing a range of tasks, from watching a science video and reviewing it to producing a revision card on a subject they have been studying. Can fit any year group and covers a range of subjects, vould be adapted for any other subect in school too, pupils hand in work as they complete it, so is easily tracked and activiely engages them in work, i tried this at my school and got significantly more homework handed in and some really creative pieces of work completed
Jurassic island

Jurassic island

(0)
A resource specifically designed to help BTEC students on principles of applied science pass part of Unit 4 learning aim A. This uses a simulation scenario where pupils have a population of dinosaurs on an island (counters are included if you don't have access to toy dinosaurs, however any toy animal would do). They then have some action cards to act out on their island (these are cut up shuffled and split into half) monitoring the number of dinosaurs at each turn. They can then draw a population graph and answer the questions in the booklet that progress up to Distinction or A grade, also included is a peer assessment sheet, this doesn't mention grades it uses pictures of dinosaurs instead however they correspond to pass, merit and distinction (or C,B and A). I find modelling populations and their changes in this way really helps pupils (especially lower ability pupils) grasp the concept of what factors affect populations better than any other way I have tried to teach the topic.
