Comic Covers (New DC 52's) Blank for pupils

(6)
this is a selection of the New DC 52's blank comic covers that they published as part of their cover variants. I had a great art lesson with my pupils where they designed their own cover art, which is now on display in the local comic shop. This makes a great stand alone cover lesson or part of a ongoing topic on multimodal literature or comic art There is also an example of a completed cover attached to provide inspiration

(1)
A selection of Jeans for Genes Day ideas and a little starter activity to get pupils thinking about inheritance. Jeans for Genes Day is a great charity event that can be supported by any school and it has a wide scope for cross curricular links.

New Crime Scence Science

(1)
Written this year, inlcudes some victim identification material and works on the crime scene having a coded message (like the zodiac killer), a muddy footprint and a severed arm and then later on another crime scene with a knife and some bones from another victim. I used coded messages to link the crime scenes and taunt the pupils as the killer but simple messages could be left instead, i tried to link in some victim support material as well to give a link to citizenship and the impact of crime, i will give more details by email through the TES if desired

Burke and hare

(2)
A good opening to investigating science and CSI type projects, looks at the murders committed by burke and hare and has a sorting out worksheet for their story, once pupils have sorted the cards out you can remove some of them and get them to reproduce parts of the story to see what they have learnt there is also pictures of old medical instruments for them to guess how they were used and a section of pictures for them to make posters on the history of anatomy.

English Consequences: creative writing frame

(1)
Based on the game consequences which you may remember from when you were younger, I made these sheets when we had been working on lord of the flies so they have a bit of a lost theme. Each pupil fills in one part of the sheet folds it over and passes it to the person next to them they do a part fold it over and pass it on. when all parts have been completed you unfold it and get some really random and funny stories
Phrenology
cazzie123cazzie123

Phrenology

(1)
looks at the science of phrenology once believed in and now dismissed use the first sheet as a starter, then introduce ideas of phrenology to pupils and get them to measure each other and see if they have any criminal characteristics has great links to citizenship as you can discuss whether it is fair to label people on looks alone.
Jelly Baby Island
cazzie123cazzie123

Jelly Baby Island

(4)
requires populations of jelly babies to carry out. give the pupils an island outline and a population of jelly babies they then use half the cards at the front of the actvity to affect their population and answer questions on what happens to their populations. The level ladder may need adjusting to match APP

Family trees and evolution

Family trees and evolution

(1)
I designed this as a interview lesson but it works as part of the OCR twenty first century science module on life on earth as well. you start with the pictures of a real family tree and look for similarities before moving on to look at darwins finches and his work and the development of phylogenetic trees. It's a good springboard into a discussion about how DNA evidence supports the theory of evolution and can then extend into darwins work, my extension sheet included has an excerpt from the origin of the species describing the finches
