This activity is designed to help children build up sentences to retell the story of “The Three Little Pigs”. It has been designed using colourful semantics so that the children can create sentences to match a picture - for example, 1) WHO can you see? 2) WHAT are they doing? (verb) 3) What is the object? (noun). It is ideal for children with Speech & Language difficulties, or for EAL children. On the last page, there is a storyboard with pictures to sequence. In addition to this, there is also a story map which has been created using the Colourful Semantic images. This can be used to support with oral retelling of the story as well as story writing.

This SMART notebook file can be used to help children to retell the story in the correct order using colourful semantics. They can select the correct pictures to make the sentence to match the picture, then orally rehearse the sentence using this as a prompt. Once they reach the last slide (the cave), they can then go back through the slides as the family run away from the bear.

Little Red Riding Hood SMART notebook using colourful semantics

(0)
This is a SMART notebook activity where the children can choose the pictures to create the sentences for each part of the story. It uses the colourful semantics colours to support with structuring a sentence. The first 8 slides use 3 part sentences to retell the story (Who? Doing? What?). The next 8 slides include the same slides but with 4 part sentences (Who? Doing? What? Where?) to extend children beyond the basic sentence structure. This activity is ideal to support retelling a story in English, or as an oral retelling to support children who are EAL or have Speech & Language activities.

Spell and write CVC words

This resource is designed to encourage children to correctly identify all the sounds in CVC words. For each picture, there are a selection of sounds. First, then need to say the word, then break it down into phonemes “bus…b-u-s”. In the column next to the images, they then identify and colour these phonemes before writing the word in the last column. This activity can be used to support segmenting and blending within a lesson, or as an assessment tool to identify whether children can do this independently. There are 2 worksheets for this activity included.

Maths mastery questions for more than, less than and equal to. (Year 2/3)

(0)
This resource has 3 pages of questions for children to apply and extend their knowledge and understanding of place value when working on “More than, less than and equal to”. It encourages children to use the symbols correctly and to select numbers to complete questions. The questions are written in a way where there is more than one possible answer. This includes comparing numbers as well as calculations. I created this to use with a Year 2 class when teaching place value. I laminated these questions and cut them up so that children could choose a question to work on.

"air" trigraph

These files were created to be used within the RWI phonics programme but could be used within any phonics programme. Once the teacher has introduced the grapheme, the children should practice writing it on a whiteboard before tracing over the letters on the sheet. This support handwriting as well as phonics. There are then words for the children to read which they then need to write under the correct picture. Once they have completed this, there is space for them to write some sentences using the words, ensuring that they understand what the words mean. FInally, there is a word search which helps the children to recognise the correct spelling of each word. Each part of the worksheets are also on SMART notebook slides which means that it can be modelled on the board by the teacher or pupils.
