Little Red Riding Hood SMART notebook using colourful semantics

(0)
This is a SMART notebook activity where the children can choose the pictures to create the sentences for each part of the story. It uses the colourful semantics colours to support with structuring a sentence. The first 8 slides use 3 part sentences to retell the story (Who? Doing? What?). The next 8 slides include the same slides but with 4 part sentences (Who? Doing? What? Where?) to extend children beyond the basic sentence structure. This activity is ideal to support retelling a story in English, or as an oral retelling to support children who are EAL or have Speech & Language activities.

We're Going On A Bear Hunt Colourful Semantics Story Sequencing

This SMART notebook file can be used to help children to retell the story in the correct order using colourful semantics. They can select the correct pictures to make the sentence to match the picture, then orally rehearse the sentence using this as a prompt. Once they reach the last slide (the cave), they can then go back through the slides as the family run away from the bear.

The Gingerbread Man Colourful Semantics SMART notebook file and story map

(0)
This resource includes a SMART notebook file with the story broken down into parts, with one slide for each part of the story. Each slide contains the main story image, a colourful semantic frame, and a choice of images to build the sentence to match the picture. This helps children to build sentences and say them orally and is suitable for young children, including those with speech and language difficulties and/or EAL. It comes complete with a story map using the colourful semantic images, which links to the “Talk4Writing” style of retelling stories. In addition to this, there is a written script for teachers to use to support with the retelling of the story.

These files were created to be used within the RWI phonics programme but could be used within any phonics programme. Once the teacher has introduced the grapheme, the children should practice writing it on a whiteboard before tracing over the letters on the sheet. This support handwriting as well as phonics. There are then words for the children to read which they then need to write under the correct picture. Once they have completed this, there is space for them to write some sentences using the words, ensuring that they understand what the words mean. FInally, there is a word search which helps the children to recognise the correct spelling of each word. Each part of the worksheets are also on SMART notebook slides which means that it can be modelled on the board by the teacher or pupils.

Set 1 sounds worksheets and SMART notebook file

Includes a simple worksheet for each of the set 1 single sounds (except qu as q cannot be taught without adding the u), using cursive formation. Each sheet begins by practicing writing the letter. There are then 4 CVC words to spell. From “u” onwards, there is also a picture with a simple sentence to write. Each section of each worksheet is also on a SMART notebook file for demonstration on an interactive board. On the SMART notebook file the letters are at the top and have been set to “infinite clone” so that they can be moved to build words. Also includes a summary sheet with a list of the words for each worksheet. Suitable for Reception children beginning phonics. These resources will save hours of preparation time for teachers!

FREE Phonics worksheet, letter b with SMART notebook file

Phonics work sheet for “b” using cursive letter formation. The complete set of these worksheets are available in my resources, along with a SMART notebook file with slides for every letter sound. With this free download, there is an example of this with the pages to use alongside the “b” worksheet. I created these resources as I couldn’t find any suitable resources with cursive letter formation. This is designed to be used with children who are beginning to learn letter sounds and read/spell CVC words. On the second page there is also a picture where the child sequences a sentence using the words on the page before writing the sentence. This can be modelled using the SMART notebook file.
