The students will create paper puppets with movable mouth parts that can be manipulated with their hands to make words. They will make Easter themed puppets of either a bunny or a chick and add on 3-D materials such as cotton balls and feathers to add detail. The puppet will hold a biography Easter egg with their name and personality traits. This is a character that will be completely conceptualized by the students themselves. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

Earth Day Recycling Receptacles

(0)
Students will be able to recognize the ecological impact of Earth Day by participating in constructing their own mini recycling receptacles that they will fill with recycled materials such as paper, plastic and metal and therefore re-purposing these items and giving them new life. They will also write a title and a mini story for a newspaper article to campaign for recycling. This project is done in honor of Earth Day which occurs in April. They will raise awareness among their peers and for themselves on the proper way to recycle by separating the plastics, paper and metal. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

The students will create a moving panda that is the symbol of China for Asian/Pacific American heritage month. They will learn about their habitat and recreate the environment with the panda “climbing” up and down the tree. They will be able to recognize the importance of saving the panda. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

Recycled Dot Day Air Balloon

(0)
Students will be able to express their creativity and recognize that they can make their mark confidently without worrying about “getting it perfect” by going through the process of designing and constructing a 3- dimensional dot that will be transformed into a hot air balloon to honor the anniversary of International Dot Day that occurs every September 15th. Peter H. Reynold’s book “The Dot” has a powerful message of creativity, bravery and potential to inspire the students and help them see that they are part of a giant effort to make the world a better place by encouraging others to reach their full potential. They will learn to differentiate the concepts of two-dimensional art verses three-dimensional art. We will have a discussion mirroring the main character’s Vashti’s questioning of her confidence with drawing concerning if they have ever felt that they were not good at something and how can they overcome it. We will discuss the meaning of encouragement and how that helps to propel us and the snowball effect of encouraging others to spread confidence. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

Students will be able to identify the characteristics of the fall season and utilize their fine motor skills by constructing a three-dimensional tree with individualized branches that will be cut and twisted that will stand on a landscape that they will design and construct from their imagination. This activity will focus on building their fine motor skills by testing their hand strength and finesse in order to build the tree. They will also learn about the process of how and why the leaves change colors from the transition of the spring and summer season to the fall season. Lastly, they will write their own observations of what changes occur to the earth during the fall season. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
