Recycled Dot Day Air Balloon

(0)
Students will be able to express their creativity and recognize that they can make their mark confidently without worrying about “getting it perfect” by going through the process of designing and constructing a 3- dimensional dot that will be transformed into a hot air balloon to honor the anniversary of International Dot Day that occurs every September 15th. Peter H. Reynold’s book “The Dot” has a powerful message of creativity, bravery and potential to inspire the students and help them see that they are part of a giant effort to make the world a better place by encouraging others to reach their full potential. They will learn to differentiate the concepts of two-dimensional art verses three-dimensional art. We will have a discussion mirroring the main character’s Vashti’s questioning of her confidence with drawing concerning if they have ever felt that they were not good at something and how can they overcome it. We will discuss the meaning of encouragement and how that helps to propel us and the snowball effect of encouraging others to spread confidence. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

Weaving Heart Mobile Card

(0)
The students will weave intricate hearts just like spiders weave their webs strand by strand for their Valentine’s Day art project that will literally tug at their loved one’s heart “strings” with their sentimental value. They will choose the lengths and colors of their yarn and create a personalized string pattern on top of a paper plate that they will design underneath with colored pencils and markers. They will also write a surprise message inside of a heart for their loved one that is folded in half like a booklet and design the outside of it and attach it to the mobile. Lastly, they will weave the strings around a mini cardboard heart around the border and attach it to the mobile. The weaving will help enhance their fine motor skills and patience with a steady hand that results in the reward of an artwork that can be given as a gift for their family. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.

Not So Still Life Observation Using Imagination

(0)
The students will create a still life from observation by drawing what they physically see in front of them as accurately as they can. They will then pick one of the objects and make them come to life by drawing them in motion. They will invent a background from imagination. This project will help the students develop both observational skills and drawing from imagination and how the 2 worlds can interact to form a hybrid artwork. They will then write a short story of the interaction between the animate and inanimate objects. A learning objective, subject summary and application in real life, materials needed for each student and the step by step directions needed to create this lesson are all detailed in each of my lesson plans.
