In the style of Pie Corbett I have created a simple story, in five paragraphs, for the children to learn off by heart by adding their own actions. Create a picture map to help remember it (There is an example on the Smartboard of one). Then the children 'hug&' the text by using the story from the sheet to write their own version by changing names and key words (the words to change are underlined and there are gaps for them to add their own words.) I have created a separate resource where they write their own adventure story from scratch, which follows on from this.

This is an ideal way to introduce young children to The Tempest. I have found suitable pictures of the characters and it explains the plot simply. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

This is a great activity to do at the beginning of the year-makes a great display. This Smart board introduces acrostic poems to the children and has lots of adjectives they could use to describe themselves. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The children could type them out on to the computer once they have written them in rough.

Here are some detailed instructions, with pictures, to show how the Ancient Egyptians would have mummified a body. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!Use to help explain this process to children. You can chop up the instructions without numbers on and they can re order them. Pretend they are embalmers and do some drama where they imagine following these steps to mummify a body! They can do it in pairs! The children really enjoy this, especially pretending to put make up on the mummy!They could write their own instructions once they are familiar with the process.

This is fun and quick to play. The simple instructions are on the bingo sheet. They can all have the same sheet. They have to highlight 5 of the verbs but they have to take care as I have included some nouns! I hope they enjoy it! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

Ask the children to think of some questions to ask Malvolio, for example they could work with a partner to write at least 5 questions in their books. They need to understand the plot of the play.Teacher can hot seat as Malvolio. Use his 'thoughts&' below to help you answer as though you are him. Ask the children to draw him, use the pictures of Malvolio to help them, and write thought bubbles of what he is thinking.Give the vocabulary list (words that you have used) so they can magpie these and reward them if they include a certain number in their writing.

A fun game to help children to get to know their new class mates at the beginning of the year! There are two games, one of older junior school children. This resource could easily be adapted for older pupils. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

You will need a Smartboard. Follow the slides to create a factory poem based on pictures and photographs focusing on the outside features of the factory. The slides take you though how to teach it. Create 5 or more lines following a structure e.g. The + adjective + noun + verb e.g. 'The callous chimney smoked..&' Then complete the line with a simile (like or as) or something else. This encourages them to use alliteration and personification. Use the useful adjectives sheet to extend their vocabulary. Please leave feedback!

We do 'Surprise Writes&' in my school on Fridays, once every half term (usually we do &';Big Write'), where all year groups (Year 3 to 6) complete the same writing activity. The children and teachers do not know what it will be until that morning. This resource links to a TES video story start and there is a link on here. The children LOVED creating spooky stories from this! The idea is that they have very little help when they write so that it can be assessed.

This teaches children how to write 'spine' poems which I learned how to do on a Pie Corbett course. The Smart board explains exactly how to structure it and once you know how to write a spine poem it can be used to describe most things including animal and insects etc. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! These writing tips are posters/reminders designed to be placed around the classroom. They include synonyms for nice, beautiful, don't like, angry and really/very so you can teach children to avoid the most obvious &'every day&'; words. This Smartboard was designed for the whole junior school to use as the end of term writing assessment. You will need to colour photocopy different STORY scenes and I have included the list of picture books I took mine from in the SB. This was a chance for the children to show off their writing. If you don't know what ISPACE is, it is an excellent tool to use to teach children to vary their sentence structure. (look it up on the net!) PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

The children can click on these links to play a variety of games to help the to fully understand adverbs so that they don't think they all end in ly! The most popular game was the battle ships one. The children are learning grammar and having fun at the same time!!

The children will need to learn about concrete and abstract nouns first. They have ten sentences and have to underline all the nouns. There is an answer sheet.

A useful game to teach children the less obvious plurals, such as heroes, women, sheep, lives, wolves etc. Play the game and time them. Try to beat your time the more you play! PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! This poem could be studied over several lessons. I used this for SATS revision. Initially I read it and we discussed the meaning. Then I gave a verse out to each pair and asked one of them to practise reading it and the other to create a freeze-frame to show the main idea in the poem. Then we performed the poem in a circle. Most of the comprehension questions focus on the earlier part of the poem so you could add more questions if needed. Before you read the poem show them a photo of a wolf hound and afterwards show them a photo of his grave. Please leave feedback!

This sequence of lessons enables children to create their own firework poem from scratch, by using a helpful planning structure. I did this with my class last year and they wrote them up for display, drawing fireworks in the borders, and they were impressive.The children were proud of their work. The planning sheet helps them to generate adventurous and effective vocabulary, but it is flexible and the last two lessons show you how the children can make choices to create a unique poem. I have created a completed planning sheet for the teacher with interesting vocabulary.Each lesson begins with spellings and grammar. The ones on the slides are designed for year 5 and can be adapted but may also be appropriate for other year groups. You can follow the Smartboard slides which take you through the lesson and explain what to do, and/or you can read the lesson plans. It is important to have a flip chart to write on.
