Aimed at a top set year 8 class- can easily be adapted for KS4 students. Includes a range of Gothic texts such as Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, Dracula, Northanger Abbey. Teaches various language techniques such as pathetic fallacy, manichean symbolism, show don’t tell, foreshadowing etc. Lessons are planned using the TEEP format. Objectives and outcomes are designed to fit the GCSE criteria to prepare students for the style of the examinations. Differentiated using Aim, Challenge and Super Challenge tasks.

Used as part of the speaking and listening GCSE module but can work as a stand alone lesson to practice speaking and listening skills. Could also be adapted for teaching non-fiction if needed. Lesson is based around the concept of Room 101 with students being asked to think about their pet peeves and eventually work in a group to present a short presentation on why it should be put into room 101.

Lesson is aimed at developing students’ understanding of the General Election. Lesson looks at the history of voting, what happens in a General Election, who the main parties and leaders are & what the main pledges of each party are. Students have a choice of tasks based on speech writing. They can either write a speech arguing that the voting age should be 16 or write a speech arguing which political party should be in power.
