This is a 7-lesson SoW complete with a full scheme outline as well as all resources, links, PPTs etc. that you will need to take students through an introduction to Brecht, the ‘V’ effect and a full range of his techniques. It’s been designed for Year 9 as they move towards GCSE level, but could just as easily be used at the beginning of Year 10 for the same purpose. Please do leave a positive review if you purchase and enjoy it! :)
MUSICALS WEEK

MUSICALS WEEK

(0)
At my current school, every year the English department host a week of themed activities for students to enjoy. This year it was passed to me in the Drama department, so our theme was MUSICALS! This file contains a range of activities (with rules/instructions) and displays to host your own Musicals-themed week of fun! Extra ideas: We hosted an inter-house Spelling Bee for junior form students which went down very well! We also changed our school bells to songs from a different musical each day, and on the final day, I rounded up some teachers to surprise students with a lunchtime flashmob performance to the song “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.

Physical Theatre SoW: Haunted House

(0)
This scheme is PERFECT for October (Halloween!), and uses a haunted house as a stimulus for students to devise their own physical theatre pieces of work in a structured manner. It works great with students in year 7/8, but could easily be adapted for younger students, too (though some of the resources may need to be tamed down - they’re a little spooky!). Key skills covered include freeze frames, physical theatre, transitions, role on the wall, and hot-seating. This is a fully updated, much higher quality version of my previous ‘Haunted House’ SoW :) It contains a 5-lesson plan, all PPTs, worksheets, homework tasks, end-of-unit quiz, assessment marksheet, and everything else you will need to simply pick it up and teach it. Perfect for any teacher already eyeball-deep in work, a non-specialist/new drama teacher looking for a starting point, or a more experienced teacher in need of some fresh ideas! Please do leave a positive review if you purchase and enjoy it!

This scheme uses the Titanic as a stimulus for students to devise their own pieces of work in a structured manner. It works great with students in year 7/8, but could easily be adapted for younger or slightly older students, too. Key skills covered include freeze frames, thought-tracking, physical theatre, soundscapes, and more! This is a fully updated, much higher quality version of my previous ‘Titanic’ SoW :) It contains a 7-lesson plan, all PPTs, worksheets, homework tasks, end-of-unit quiz, assessment marksheet, and everything else you will need to simply pick it up and teach it. Perfect for any teacher already eyeball-deep in work, a non-specialist/new drama teacher looking for a starting point, or a more experienced teacher in need of some fresh ideas! An 8-lesson SoW teaching Verbatim Theatre (our lessons are 2 hours - so this would easily fit 16 shorter lessons). Students learn how to interview and transcribe, research, and create theatre collaboratively. There is a brief introduction to Paper Birds and their creative process. The unit culminates in a devised performance about different Hong Kongers experience of the pandemic (my students chose this topic - we live in Hong Kong - but the resources can be easily adapted to fit any other topic of your choosing). All PPTs, resources and necessary links are included. Please do leave a positive review if you purchase and enjoy!

Devising SoW: Storytelling through Physical Theatre

(0)
An introduction to drama ideally suited for year 6-8 (or ages 10-13). It covers the basic skills we use frequently in drama - still image, body language, tension, gesture, levels, proxemics, etc. ALL lesson plans, PowerPoints, performance assessment sheet, MTP and resources are included in the pack! You can simply download and teach. Students explore the story of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” as well as being given opportunities to devise their own scenes based on simple ideas. Later, they work on a group project in which they devise scenes based on a book they are studying in English (I use ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’, but you can use whichever book, movie, game etc you like - very easy to adapt!). Please do leave a review if you download it, and let me know what you think =)

Duologues (Mini Unit)

(0)
A short, snappy, 2-lesson unit (or 4, if your lessons are only 1 hour) on performing a duologue. The lessons focus on vocal and facial expressions, and also incorporate prior learning on body language, gesture and attitude. The unit outcome is a Zoom/online performance which students are required to record for homework, so this is great for distance learning, online learning, or blended learning - but works just as well in the physical classroom, too!

Greek Theatre: Myths and the Greek Chorus
hayleymariespiershayleymariespiers

Greek Theatre: Myths and the Greek Chorus

(0)
A 5-lesson scheme (6, if you require an additional rehearsal lesson) on Greek theatre, focusing specifically on the role of the Chorus. Working in groups, students are assigned different myths which they read in full and explore through the creating of tableaux. Then, they are given 6-panel storyboards (included in the resources) which condense their myth into 6 key moments. Students are taught how to speak and move in unison, and they then use their storyboards to create and perform 6 scenes in the same manner. Opportunities for oral and written feedback are written into the scheme, as well as a teacher’s assessment marksheet which you can adapt for your own use. Myths are of varying difficulty levels for learners across a wide spectrum. This could be adapted for use in a range of different year levels and capabilities.

Four lessons that cover: What is musical theater? Staging Lighting Costumes Designed to do in a traditional classroom setting (i.e. no groupwork, no practical work) because of covid-19 social distancing rules. Each lesson, students learn about a new technical theater skill by watching a scene from a different musical (full list of links included in the package) and analyzing one element of it. There are also supporting tasks, prompts for class discussions/mindmaps, and 2 home learning tasks. This would also be useful for when we get kicked out of the drama studio for various reasons, or could be easily adapted for cover work!

(It is written for my incoming Year 7 students, as their first experience of Drama.) There are 7 PowerPoints with accompanying notes in the Speaker’s Notes section where necessary. The final PowerPoint (lesson 7) can be done in 1 or 2 lessons, depending on how much time you have.
