I used to teach English and Dutch in Belgium. I am now teaching French in England and love to create resources. I usually use my own bitmojis for pictures to avoid any kind of copyright issues. I also get my inspiration from other teachers. My resources are free but I find it quite disheartening when people download and don't leave any feedback so please don't forget that part! :)

I got observed with this lesson and got “Outstanding”. It contains the vocabulary, vocabulary team game, GCSE style reading exercise, writing exercise and differentiated homework. I hope it can help. Don’t hesitate to leave a feedback or to change whatever you wish in the resource. :)

French Photo Card Description Activity

For the description of the photo card, I teach my students 4 simple sentences and I have created this lesson based on these 4 sentences. I just ask them to describe who is in the picture, where are they, what they are doing (using the expression “ils sont en train de”) and their feelings (“ils ont l’air”). I also ask them to describe weather/objects. This works for the writing as well as the speaking and it helps students to repeat the same set of sentences. I tried to make this activity as fun as possible. It will require students to move around the room, to work in teams with white boards and they will have the occasion to win sweets or fun pens (of course, this is totally up to you). Of course, not all of us have the same way to teach how to describe a picture. I don’t ask them to go into details. My students really struggle with the picture description so I have to teach them something simple and they’ll easily remember. However, feel free to use the ideas and adapt to the way you teach the picture description. Note: I do not own the rights of the pictures. They all come from AQA or free picture websites. Thank you and don’t hesitate to leave some feedback. :)

French - End of Year Vocabulary Game

This is another fun end of year vocabulary game I play with my classes. You will find the instructions slide 1 of the powerpoint. It is very easy and you don’t need to print anything. I think it is a good way to recap the vocabulary learnt. You can play it with KS3 as well as KS4. All you need to do is change the topics. The topics I added in this slide are for Y9/Y10 (although maybe a bit easy for Y10, so feel free to adapt). Please feel free to leave feedback. :) I am happy to share my resources for free but would really appreciate some feedback from other MFL teachers. Thank you!

I present this lesson to my Y7 students. The blue square on the second slide is usually where I write down a quick starter activity related to the previous lesson covered. Mine was about sports so feel free to change. The first part is independent and I use it to encourage them and make them realise French is not always as difficult as it seems. I then go through each word with them and give them tricks to remember some words. We then play a game and do a reading activity. The last part is a translation. Feel free to adapt as you wish. My LOs are straight to the point as well but feel free to add your own. :) Resources to be printed are the last slides. I share for free but hope to have some feedback in return so please don’t hesitate

Just a little certificate I have made to give to my students. I have decided to give one to my students who did really well at their assessments but you could use it on many other occasions. I have used my own bitmoji but feel free to put your own instead. :)

Student book marking help sheet

I prepared this marking guide sheet last year as I realised I constantly wrote down the same thing over and over again in the students’books and it would take me a long time to do so. As a result, I am now asking my students to stick this guide and the helping box in their books and I just need to write down a number and they can just refer to it. The sheet is divided in 3 parts: What Went Well, Even Better If and Now Do This. There is a “Writing” part but also “Translation” and “Reading/Listening”. I mark the speaking differently so I didn’t include it in the sheet. The helping boxes must be used in some cases. For example, if I ask them to use more connectives, the instruction tells them “See box 1” so that they don’t keep asking what it is or if I can give examples. I try to encourage them to work independently. If you have any more suggestions to improve the work, don’t hesitate to let me know.

Nicolas on holiday quiz and answers

End of year activity for my KS3 students. We are watching “Nicolas on holidays” and they have to fill in this quiz. I tried to make sure that the questions are doable for both Y7 and Y8. I hope it helps you make it through the next 2 weeks (especially with classes who don’t carry on with French next year). Ps: The movie is PG rated but I just make sure to skip the scene with the naturist lady. You just see her buttocks for 5 seconds but I would rather avoid hearing the comments the students would make. Can be quite disruptive and annoying. :) Enjoy and please don’t hesitate to leave feedback if you enjoy the resource! Thank you!

I created this last year and laminated it to display it in class so students know what to expect from the GCSE. :) They find it really useful so I hope you will as well!

French Culture - Art - Henri Rousseau

We are at this time of year where we want to do something different and fun with our classes. I have just made this lesson about Henri Rousseau as some kind of French Cultural Awareness for my KS3 classes. The lesson starts as some kind of classroom museum. Students have a questionnaire about Henri Rousseau and have to answer questions about his life. Then, they will observe 6 of his paintings and there will be 2 activities regarding his works. Finally, they will have to make their own jungle in the style of Henri Rousseau. I would say this could take 2 or even 3 lessons depending on your students. I hope you enjoy and please do not hesitate to leave feedback as it would make me happy to hear what you think of the resource.
