During this unit the children will explore some aspects of life in Palestine and Afghanistan. This unit is based upon the Michael Mupurgo books; ‘The Kites are Flying!’ and ‘Shadow.’ Initially the children will locate the countries using maps. They will investigate the history and reasons for conflict. They will gain an understanding of climate and learn how to use climate graphs. The children will also learn about different ethnicities and the impacts this can have upon a civilisation. Following on from this, they will learn about the different types of migration and consider the impact of forced migration. Finally, they will be introduced to the term ‘quality of life’ and will make decisions about how they would choose to improve the lives of the people in Afghanistan and Palestine.
