As part of my study this year I had to create activities to help teach children about a topic of choice.
I found the video ‘My Shadow is Pink’ by Scott Stuart. It was originally a book and it tells the story of a boy who likes to wear dresses. It is not only about gender identity, but also acceptance of ourselves and others.
There are multiple activities in the Power Point based on the theme of identity. There are time stamps for the video with questions. Depending on the age group, you can keep the discussion surface level or allow the students to lead the discussion further. It can be an entry into LGBTQ+ curriculum, or a simple lesson on self-acceptance despite our differences.
There are then a series of activities, based on the story, getting the children to think about their own identity and stepping out into their ‘true selves’, whatever that may be.
Note- the first few slides are for educators with background information and a link to research and a reason for having these lessons. These were created for my assignment, but may be of interest.

Free information poster about trauma with some basic suggestions for the classroom.
The diagram in the top right is great to use to demonstrate the impact trauma can have on a child. Their cortex becomes underdeveloped (higher order thinking parts of the brain) and their cerebellum/ fight/flight parts of their brain become over developed, meaning they can show signs of being constantly alert and aware and never taking down their guard.
