A 1 - 2 week unit of lessons exploring Dickens presentation of Scrooge as a redeemed character in A Christmas Carol. Focussed on a mock exam question. The unit aims to prepare pupils for the summer examinations covering close and critical interpretation and analysis skills using staggered (differentiated) model response paragraphs (level 4 through to level 6 of the marking criteria) with highlighting and annotation techniques (fully animated) to enable pupils to understand the GCSE English Literature marking criteria and assessment objectives before practising developing their own paragraphs using this knowledge. The unit then moves on to expand pupils thinking to explore the task in response to the whole novel. An array of 'self-help' resources that pupils can grab themselves, or that can be handed to them in response to their questions, which will provide adequate scaffolding or extension to enable them to help themselves make maximum progress. A range of word clouds for vocabulary extension, support mats/posters and extension activity cards, all of which can be printed in A3 or A4, laminated and placed on tables, in a draw you can quickly access or displayed around the classroom. Personally, I use the two latter options. They really do save me a lot of time and energy and are incredibly resourceful and accessible in all of the classes that I teach.
