A great simulation to find thinking distance, breaking distance and stopping distance when you change the road conditions or the state of the driver. Use the sliders on the spreadsheet to change , for example the amount of alcohol that has been drunk or the degree of wear on the tyres. The activity can be run by students working individually or led by the teacher with the whole class. There is a worksheet for students to complete to help them develop their thinking. The simulation is also provided on an older version of excel (19917)

This lesson includes a starter where students examine a number of electrical items to find out about their power, voltage, current etc. There is then a set of cards that can be laminated and passed around the class . Using the information on the cards, students calculate how much it costs to operate each device as shown, filling in their findings and calculations in the table provided on the student sheet. To consolidate and reinforce understanding, there is a worksheet with more calculations to carry out.

Two hands-on activities for what can be a rather dry area of work. In the first, students examine diagrams of atoms and use a periodic table to identify them. In the seconds, atom pairs are examined in order to find out whether or not they are isotopes. The activities work well after the key idea have been explained since they help students consolidate and then apply their knowledge.

Here you will find two booklets that give students practise at carrying out calculations using each of the equations that feature in the AQA GCSE physics specification(first examined 2018). Based on questions in the exam papers, students are asked to recall particular equations and then re-arrange them and use them. To make them more helpful for revision purposes there is a booklet for the equations required for paper one and a separate booklet for paper two. Answers are also provided.

These are great exam practise for higher students once they are familiar with how to use the equations in the specification. Each question required a multi-step calculation and often more than one equation is needed. There are two booklets; one using the equations needed in paper one and the other those in paper two. Fully worked answers are also provided which can be projected on to a board for use by the whole class.

There's a wealth of resources here; enough to fill a couple of lessons with a good variety of activities. Walking Graphs activity is an excellent way of helping students to really understand what distance (and displacement) time and speed (and velocity) -time graphs tell them. It's very engaging and students really enjoy it. Gradients Presentations talk through how and why velocity and acceleration can be calculated by finding graph gradients. A big bundle of resources to introduce the important ideas about generating and using electricity: - a starter card sort game that gets students to think through how much they depend on electricity - a hands on activity where students use cardboard boxes to build and then label a model power station - a connection card game that uses key vocabulary to help students to make connections and express their ideas verbally. - a mini colouring worksheet examining the advantages and disadvantages of domestic electricity - a worksheet classifying sources of power - a worksheet that consolidates the key components of power stations and their functions. They make a good introduction to the topic for GCSE students but would also be useful at keystage three.
